Montecito Bank & Trust is seeking a full-time Assistant Controller to join the team in our Finance Department. The Assistant Controller will deliver World Class customer service to all Finance customers, both internal and external. Provide support to the Controller and other Finance functions. This position will be responsible for the preparation of a variety of monthly and quarterly financial and regulatory reports. Ensure all accounting practices are in compliance with established accounting principles and legal guidelines. Work with the finance team to create internal controls and policies. Serve as the primary contact for the investment portfolio transactions and provide the maintenance and accounting of the portfolio. Assist with the coordination of audits and regulatory exams and implementation of new accounting guidance. Supervise Finance associates.
Minimum Requirements, Activities, & Responsibilities
Education and Experience:
- A college degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field, or a combination of related accounting/finance experience, required.
- A minimum of 3-5 years accounting/finance experience in financial services/banking, or similar experience, required.
- Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices preferred.
- Previous supervision experience required.
Essential Functions:
Financial:
- Assist with monthly general ledger close entries and reporting.
- Assist with general ledger maintenance in both FMS and Prologue.
- Maintain accounting records for Montecito Bank & Trust, Montecito Bancorp, and Mountain Financial Corporation.
- Monitor and record monthly accruals for all entities.
- Responsible for recording and tracking of prepaids including monthly amortization entries and reporting.
- Responsible for the bank’s investment portfolio including all investment entries, maintenance in prologue, and monthly valuations and entries.
- Maintain fixed asset records and reporting.
- Reconcile assigned correspondent bank statements daily/monthly.
- Reconcile/certify bancontrol and general ledger accounts.
- Prepare unsecured property tax statements for filing and payment.
- Prepare internal financial statements and presentations for management and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare month end general ledger entries as assigned.
- Assist with annual budget preparation.
- Assist Controller in implementing new accounting standards.
- Assist with mergers/acquisitions.
- Complete special projects as assigned on time and accurately.
- Provide back up for other Finance Department and Mail Room duties.
Payroll:
- Balance payroll block and process.
- Process payroll entries to correct DDA accounts.
- Reconcile 401(k) reports and transmit contributions and company match.
- Prepare annual true-up report and process company match.
- Reconcile FSA reports and DDA account.
- Assists in semi-annual 401K testing.
- Maintain 401k file for true-up calculations.
Administrative:
- Assist with setting up new departments/general ledger accounts in Prologue and FMS.
- Provide prompt quality service to all internal/external customers within acceptable time frames.
- Create or release correspondent bank wires.
- Prepare monthly financial reports for the Pricing, ALCO and Investment committee packages.
- Maintain confidentiality of customers’ information.
- Professionally handle customer problems/issues as presented or direct them to appropriate personnel.
- Process all assigned tasks in a quick and efficient manner.
- Communicate openly with peers, supervisor/manager.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule.
- All other duties as assigned.

- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
