    The District Attorney’s Office is hiring the Assistant District Attorney to assist with all office activities including direct, plan and administration of the office in all criminal prosecution matters. Provide authoritative assistance to the District Attorney, Board of Supervisors and County Management related to criminal prosecution. Collaborate with Justice Partners including Probation, Nevada County Superior Court, Public Defender and all Nevada County Law Enforcement Agencies.

    This position will be responsible for ensuring justice is pursued in all criminal manners per the California law, assists with professional development of all attorneys, support staff and investigators, available to members of the public to discuss concerns, and administration of all processes including Department of Justice requirements, the Attorney General, contract management, and all Federal, State and local laws and regulations that affect the activities of the District Attorney's Office. Management of attorney staff including the activities of a satellite office in Truckee.

    • Federal, State and local laws and regulations affecting the activities of the District Attorney's Office
    • Principles and practices of criminal law
    • Legal research methods, practices and materials
    • Rules of the courts, policies, procedures, and precedent decisions
    • Trial and hearing procedures and rules of evidence
    • The State Penal, Health and Safety, Vehicle, Corporation (related to criminal), Welfare and Institutions, Business and Professions, Evidence and Family Codes

    Skill In

    • Advises staff on case management strategy and technique.
    • Criminal investigation techniques
    • Analyzing and preparing a variety of legal documents and instruments
    • Preparing and communicating clear and logical oral and written statements of fact, law and argument
    • Adapting to changing priorities and requirements in a fast paced legal environment
    • Effectively interacting with individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, behavioral and environmental settings
    • Assist with Public Record Requests for the office
    • Assist with state statutory reporting requirements

    This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and graduation from an ABA, AALS, or CA State Bar-accredited law school AND at least five years' experience practicing the field of criminal public law. In addition, candidates must be in possession of a valid driver's license within 30 days of hire AND must be an active member in the California State Bar.

    Dental & Vision Insurance

    Nevada County employees can opt to receive dental and vision insurance without opting for health insurance coverage as well. Delta Dental is the dental provider offered through Nevada County and VSP Vision Care is our vision care provider.

    Retirement

    The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
