Job Title: Alternative School Assistant Principal (Bryant, Levy, Sowers)
Position Function: The assistant principal is directly responsible to the building principal and assists in the administration, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program and supportive services/activities in the school.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Assists the building principal and supports all stakeholders representing the school community in developing the vision, mission and goals of the school
- Supports the implementation of the school improvement plan
- Assists the building principal’s use of data to monitor and adjust as necessary the action plan and goals of the school improvement plan
- Assists the building principal to develop and implement a proactive and positive approach to behavior management
- Assists the building principal in ensuring all students are making academic progress by monitoring the instructional programs
- Ensures instructional guidelines are in place and teachers are following the district adopted course and grade level standards and teachers are following the curriculum with fidelity
- Supports all students have access to the core curriculum and that teachers differentiate instruction and intervention based on student data
- Supports students having access to a variety of activities that support their leadership, physical, emotional, social and attitudinal growth
- Supports students having access to services that support mental, physical, and emotional wellness for every student
- Assists the building principal in evaluating all staff members for the purpose of improving student growth, identify professional learning needs, promoting teacher leadership, and making decisions
- Monitors instruction through observations, coaching conversation and provides necessary feedback to enhance teaching and learning
- May be involved in recruiting, hiring, assigning, disciplining, and dismissing school staff
- Supports a positive culture of learning and collaboration necessary to create and support high levels of learning for all students
- Supports distributive leadership opportunities for staff
- Promotes the success of every student and staff by ensuring management of the organization, operation and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment
- Supports a culture of collaboration, trust, learning and high expectations for all
- Builds and sustains partnerships with families and community partners
- Follows established timelines and guidelines for all of the elements required by federal, state and district policies
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary and assures due process for students when appropriate
- Assumes responsibility for routine administrative and supervisory tasks (i.e. enrollment, attendance, transportation, SPED, ELL, school sponsored events, etc.)
- Assumes responsibility for the administration of the school in the absence of the building Principal
- Supports a safe learning environment by adhering to all crisis plans, school wide behavior plans and policies

- Ensure that Positive Behavioral Supports are utilized throughout the building.
Additional Duties: The Assistant Principal will be responsible for other duties which may be assigned by the Building Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent of Elementary/Secondary Schools.
Equipment: The employee must demonstrate the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machine. Must always comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use.
Travel: Limited travel between schools and central offices may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Works in standard office and school building environments
- Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities
- Additional demands upon request of Principal, Superintendent
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
- Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which will be determined and validated by testing
- Use of good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed
- Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
- Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
- Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
