Collins Aerospace’s Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) team is looking for an exceptionally motivated Engineer that is passionate about collaborating with high-performance teams to create mission critical solutions.

    Our Associate Director Project Engineers work in an exciting, adaptive, and engaging environment delivering mission critical systems to the US DoD. Project Engineers use a breadth of skills to manage and oversee budgets and schedules, perform program critical path and variance analyses, drive customer satisfaction through positive reporting and collaboration, and guide design teams in the synthesis of new architectures that meld commercial and military products.

    This is an onsite position in Richardson, TX. This position may be eligible for relocation.

    What you will do:

    • Operate in an integrated digital environment supporting the definition, derivation, and allocation of system requirements; development of compliant system and subsystem architectures; integration and deployment to system integration labs and customer platforms; and verification and validation of the solution with the US DoD customer and certifying agencies.
    • Manage and motivate the technical performance of a large portfolio team which may include multiple concurrent projects and engineering teams.
    • Communicate and collaborate with other Project Engineers to coordinate project tasking and resources, domain-area IPT leads to develop detailed execution plans, junior engineers to support and mentor through their program tasking, and functional managers to build staffing plans and provide performance feedback.
    • Lead the development of product portfolio vision, strategy, and goals to align with other programs and customers, ensure continued maintenance and refinement of, and facilitate conflict resolution as the need arises.
    • Prepare detailed project budgets, schedules, and time-phased staffing plans.
    • Track and report budget and schedule performance using Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques and adjust plans as required to maintain customer milestone deliveries and internal sales objectives.
    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact to senior customer counterparts, critical suppliers, internal senior program management, and engineering leadership.
    • Provide direct support to Value Stream Leadership, Contracts, Engineering, Subcontracts, Procurement, Operations, Quality, Logistics, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Scheduling, Administration, Security, Digital Technology (DT), Human Resources (HR), and other internal stakeholders.
    • Support the capture of new business through strategic discussion with US DoD senior leadership and internal Business Development and Value Steam Leadership; and provide bid and pursuit oversight and approval for the capture of new scope and/or Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
    • Drive excellence in engineering performance across product and functional domains to meet and/or exceed cost, schedule, and technical requirements through early requirements capture, design, development, test, acceptance, and long-term sustainment.

    What you will learn:

    • You will learn about commercial and military aircraft systems.
    • You will learn about large platform systems integration of RF communications, networking, and computing.
    • You will prepare and conduct formal ground and flight test, certification, and customer sell-off events.
    • You will gain valuable experience in project leadership including formal roles such as Scrum Master, Control Account Manager (CAM), and technical Design Authority.
    • You will learn and lead the development of new technology guiding products from early maturity, internally funded, low Technology Readiness Level (TRL) research and development to full flight qualification and flight proven capability.

    Education & Qualifications:

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 14 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 18 years of relevant experience
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance up to and including a TS/SCI.
    • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
    • Ability to work on-site, full time in a classified environment.
    • Ability to travel up to 25% of the year including (although atypical) on or over weekends.

    Skills you must have:

    • 5 years in a Project Engineering, Technical Project Management, or similar role with cognizance over technical cost, schedule, and risk and opportunity management for a product or program of high complexity.
    • Strong communicator able to motivate and collaborate effectively with the customer, user community, Program Management and Project Engineering peers, Engineering leadership, domain-area IPT leads, individual contributors, and functional management.
    • Knowledgeable in Earned Value Management (EVM); able to interpret EV data and metrics to draw conclusions about program performance and drive corrective actions.

    Skills we value:

    • Active U.S. DoD security clearance.
    • NC3 domain knowledge, particularly in concepts of operations and requirements.
    • Leadership and performance in both agile and waterfall project management methodologies.
    • Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using Cameo, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
    • Requirements analysis and requirements decomposition for a large platform and/or complex product.
    • Integration of RF communications products including hands-on testing in an integration lab and/or on the delivered platform.
    • Integration of network and computing products including hands-on configuration and management in an integration lab and/or on the delivered platform.
    • Integration of airborne systems which may include hands-on testing of flight deck avionics, power generation and distribution, and/or interiors products in an integration lab and/or on the delivered platform.
    • Leadership during formal Government test including ground, flight, and certification events.
    • Support to product transition to manufacturing.

    The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
