General Summary:
The position has primarily teaching responsibilities. The main teaching responsibility for this position is for the A.S. in information technology degree program. The instructor may also be assigned to teach courses in the A.S. in Computer Science Program and/or Certificate of Completion in Computer Programming. The Department of Information Technology, Engineering, and Computer Science (ITECS) offers degree programs in Information Technology (A.S.), Computer Science (A.S), and Pre-Engineering and Computer Programming Certificates of Completion. The workload will be equivalent to a full-time equivalent teaching load of 15 credits per quarter. The employee will maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff and administration; and treat others with respect and dignity, recognizing the uniqueness of students, colleagues, and Salish Kootenai College.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction
Develop and teach classes within the Information Technology and Computer Science degree programs.
A primary focus will be placed on the Information Technology courses, specifically in Windows and Linux Operating Systems and administration of these products in an IT environment.
Collaborate with colleagues on academic program assessment and other program improvement efforts
Maintain scheduled office hours and availability to assist students
Advising
Advise students on academic and vocational curricula, internship opportunities, and career pathways.
Keep accurate and complete advising records.
Refer students to appropriate college and community resources
Evaluate transcripts as needed
College/Committee Service
Participate in SKC campus and community events. Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters and academic issues
Attend Staff/Faculty and departmental meetings
Devise, implement, and attend student recruiting efforts
Other
Provide role modeling to students of professional working relationships, including (but not limited to):
Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Organizational, conflict management and teamwork skills
Citizenship skills
Integrate culturally competent materials into coursework, with focus on issues related to Native experience, indigenous methodology and indigenous research methods
Participate in department assessment and planning activities
Participate in grant-writing, grant administration or research activities as assigned or approved
Be an appropriate representative of SKC outside the campus environment
Know and follow SKC policies and procedures

Minimum Qualifications
B.S in Information Technology/Computer Science or a related field.
Must have ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and the ability to communicate through written, spoken and visual media.
Demonstrated skills in system administration, information security, and network administration.
Demonstrated skills in Python, Java, and/or C programming languages
Proof of working knowledge with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
Have knowledge of or be open to learning about the Salish and Kootenai Tribes and the mission and goals of Salish Kootenai College.
