    Our client is a prominent healthcare organization operating a 122-bed Joint Commission-accredited facility, which serves as the region's only designated Trauma Center and Paramedic Base Station. The facility performs 4,000 surgeries annually, hosts 4,000 Emergency Department visits monthly, and is home to a Bariatric Weight-Loss Surgery Center of Excellence and the area’s only Total Joint Center.

    Additionally, the client operates a 120-bed acute-care hospital with unique capabilities such as:

    • The region’s only Pediatric Emergency Services team, staffed by board-certified Rady Children’s emergency physicians.
    • A dedicated OB/Emergency Department program, ensuring 24/7 OB/GYN coverage.
    • The largest Childbirth Center in the area, offering private suites and a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in collaboration with Rady Children’s.

    Position Summary

    As Director of Risk Management, you will be responsible for leading all risk management operations while ensuring adherence to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and quality improvement initiatives. Serving as the Patient Safety Officer and Compliance Officer, you will play a critical role in upholding the organization’s commitment to delivering high-quality care and mitigating risks within the acute care environment.

    Key Responsibilities Risk Management Leadership:

    • Direct and oversee all Risk Management operations, ensuring alignment with hospital goals and compliance standards.
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive risk management protocols in collaboration with hospital leadership.
    • Proactively identify potential risk factors and implement strategies to mitigate them.

    Patient Safety & Compliance:

    • Serve as the hospital’s Patient Safety Officer, spearheading patient safety initiatives and quality improvement measures.
    • Act as the Compliance Officer, implementing policies to meet federal, state, and Joint Commission standards.
    • Oversee compliance with CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.

    Team Leadership:

    • Mentor and guide the Risk Management team, fostering a culture focused on patient safety and operational excellence.
    • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for team members.

    Collaboration & Communication:

    • Partner with department leaders to address risk management and patient safety challenges effectively.
    • Serve as a liaison between the organization and regulatory bodies, ensuring clear communication and timely responses to compliance matters.

    QualificationsEducation:

    • Graduate of an accredited nursing school or a collegiate program in a health-science related field.
    • Preferred: Master’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
    • Alternative: Bachelor’s degree with at least seven (7) years of director-level experience.

    Experience:

    • Minimum four (4) years of leadership experience in an acute care facility.
    • Demonstrated expertise in Risk Management within a healthcare setting, including knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and mitigation strategies.

    Certifications:

    • Required: Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ).
