Assoc. Professor - Psychology teaches courses in the discipline area of psychology. Professor - Psychology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Psychology typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     Yakima Valley College seeks an innovative adjunct Psychology Instructor, who is active and accomplished in his or her discipline, who has a record of successful teaching or related experience, and who is committed to community college students and their success. This is a part-time, adjunct faculty position, with an anticipated start date of September 2016.  

    Reporting to the Dean - Arts and Sciences, the adjunct Psychology Instructor will be culturally competent with commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilize appropriate technology in the classroom, and have a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Arts and Sciences Division. 

    YVCC offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, encourages cooperative learning and use of technologies in the classroom and for e-learning. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Earned Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology or closely related field
    2. Successful completion of significant coursework in psychology
    3. Successful demonstrated teaching experience 
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience teaching at the college level, preferably at the community college level
    • Experience or interest in teaching populations diverse in age, culture, and ethnicity
    • Understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy and life-long learning
    • Experience or interest in using a variety of classroom methodologies and modalities (e.g. assessment, collaborative learning, interactive teaching, e-learning, learning communities)
    • Experience and/or evidence of willingness to work as part of the college community (e.g. committees, college activities)
    • Experience or interest in curriculum development and assessment
    JOB PROFILE: 

    The primary responsibility of this position is to teach courses in Psychology, as needed.
    • Participation in college-wide registration and advising, a commitment to systematic classroom/department/college assessment and improvement
    • Preparation of class materials, course and curriculum planning
    • Availability for student consultation outside of class on a daily basis
    • Maintenance of high expectations for students
    • Participation in campus-wide committees
    • Ordering textbooks and audiovisual materials
    • Assessment and evaluation of individual student progress
    • Maintenance of student records
    • Referring students to other appropriate college staff as necessary
    • Demonstration of student-centered values consistent with the community college philosophy
