Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. The Alaska Public Employees Association/AFT (AFL-CIO) is currently accepting applications for an experienced union Field Representative for its Anchorage office. Ideally, the successful candidate will have previous experience working for a labor union. The position will require advanced verbal and written communication skills, exceptional analytical abilities, experience with labor philosophies, and the ability to work effectively with emotional and highly stressful situations.
Graduation from accredited college or university with major in the area of labor relations, pre-law, union administration, or closely related field, two years’ experience in labor relations or personnel field is desired. Experience in labor relations or personnel field may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis. Advanced education may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
The primary job responsibilities are representing members who are experiencing workplace issues which include, but not limited to, grievance handling, worksite issues, arbitrations, and contract negotiations. The successful candidate also must have a desire and willingness to work on internal organizing and member involvement, external organizing, and political campaigns when necessary. This position requires travel. Salary is $80,280 - $85,908 or more depending on experience and qualifications.
