Assists in purchasing materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. Being an Associate Buyer may require a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Tracks purchases, monitors vendor quality, and maintains a current database of vendor information. In addition, Associate Buyer typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Buyer will drive outstanding produce buying skills while maximizing company profits.
Responsibilities:
· Place purchase orders with vendors utilizing an awareness of seasonal fluctuations, market effects, repack/materials cost and other information that require a high attention to detail to avoid spoilage, overstocks, and shortages.
· Must have the ability to buy fresh produce locally (US) and internationally (Mexico and Canada)
· Have an effective communication with the production team to evaluate company needs and determine short-term and long-term objectives for the buying strategy.
· Manage and maintain the entire Purchase-to-Pay process, covering:
· Maintain Purchasing system data to effectively generate suggested PO’s.
· Discuss and provide market trends with our sales department to provide an effective service and enable sales order growth.
· Buyers to build upon best-practices.
· Build and maintain vendor and/or grower relationships to not only support PO fulfillment, but also negotiate volume discounts and price breaks wherever possible.
· Represent the company to the industry and the business community.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor Degree in business or related field
· Five (5) years’ of similar experience within produce industry.
· Bi-lingual Spanish and English; written and oral
· Excellent networking, relationship building and presentation skills.
· Financial analysis skills with the ability to develop budgets, cost standards, and other performance measures.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
· Ability to travel up to 10% internationally and nationally.
· Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email programs.
· Ability to multi-task with different departments in a professional matter.
· Ability to create a variety of reports and present to senior management.
· Experience in the areas of purchasing, sales and any other related areas.
