Director of Development, College of Arts and Sciences

Job Summary:
USF is a forward-leaning institution that is currently investing in the growth of its fundraising capacity. We recently completed a $300M capital campaign (our largest ever) and are currently planning the launch of the next campaign. The next five years will be especially transformative as increased investments in staffing prepare the Development division for a substantial comprehensive campaign. Reporting to the Senior Director, Major Gifts, DEI and Community Initiatives, the Director of Development for the College of Arts & Sciences will play an integral role in this process at an exciting time in the school's evolution.

There are more than 1,900 identified campaign prospects rated $1 million and over 800 of them are categorized as having a high likelihood of making a major gift to USF. Working closely with the Senior Director, Major Gifts, DEI and Community Initiatives, the Director of Development oversees the fundraising strategy for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in partnership with the Dean. The Director manages relationships and secures support from donors capable of making gifts of $25,000 with a yearly goal of at least $500,000. The Director coordinates the participation and involvement of campus leadership with CAS fundraising efforts.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

60% Major Gifts Fundraising

• Designs and implements a comprehensive development plan to increase philanthropic support for funding priorities within the College of Arts & Sciences. Manages a portfolio of 90-110 individual major gift prospects, the majority with the capacity to give $250,000 or more. Makes at least 6-10 significant prospect/donor visits per month. Qualifies 12-24 major gift prospects per year. Cultivates and solicits current use and endowment gifts directly, including proposal development. Conducts 15-24 solicitations and raises $1-3 million annually.
  

25% Leadership and Collaboration

• Supervises and coaches Assistant Director to achieve individual fundraising goals.
• Advises CAS leadership on fundraising strategy, solicitation opportunities, proposal development, and identifies faculty to highlight to USF's different giving audiences.
• Partners with Corporation and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning and Annual Fund teams to achieve annual and campaign development goals for CAS.

15% Volunteer Management

• Identifies, recruits, and actively engages advisory board members with a focus on major gift prospect identification, solicitation, and stewardship.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree required.
• A minimum of five years of progressive and successful development experience in major gifts, preferably in higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to build rapport with prospects and donors and successfully move them through the moves management cycle.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including proposal writing and the ability to deliver a compelling case for support.
• Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver innovative ideas and programs.
• Commitment to appropriate use of sensitive, confidential constituent data and familiarity with relevant privacy laws.
• Demonstrated time management, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Willingness to travel and work weekend/evening hours.
