  • The Assistant Dean of Students at the College of Southern Idaho is a key leadership position responsible for promoting a safe, inclusive, and supportive campus environment. This role requires a deep commitment to student success, Title IX compliance, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments. The Assistant Dean of Students should possess experience in student affairs, prioritize discretion, and be open to a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. A master's degree in a related field is preferred. The Assistant Dean will play a key leadership role in helping run the office of the Dean of Students, manage student conduct, and be a collaborative thinking partner. The Assistant Dean of Students upholds expectations for conduct and citizenship through conflict resolution, investigating and adjudicating lower-level disciplinary issues, and on-call crisis management in consultation with the Dean of Students. The Assistant Dean of Students assists students with health and wellness issues and serves as a liaison between the student and other relevant departments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Title IX Compliance: in conjunction with the CARE team, ensure compliance with Title IX regulations and oversee the college's efforts to prevent and address gender-based discrimination and harassment.
    • Maxient Reporting: Utilize Maxient software to track and manage student conduct cases and incident reports. Maintain accurate records and generate reports as needed.
    • Student Support: Provide support and assistance to students facing academic, personal, or behavioral challenges. Develop and implement intervention strategies to promote student success.
    • Crisis Management: Act as a resource during campus emergencies or crises, working closely with the college's emergency response team and providing support to affected students.
    • Collaboration: Collaborate with various college departments, including academic affairs, residence life, counseling services, and others, to create a holistic and supportive student experience.
    • Discretion: Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion, ensuring student privacy and maintaining professional boundaries.
    • Nights and Weekends Availability: Be available for on-call duty during nights and weekends to respond to urgent student needs or campus incidents.
    • Student Advocacy: Advocate for students' needs and concerns within the college administration and work to develop and implement policies and programs that enhance the student experience.
    • Training and Education: Provide training and education to students, faculty, and staff on topics related to student conduct, Title IX, and campus safety.
    • Passion for Students: Demonstrate a genuine passion for the success and well-being of college students, fostering a campus culture that prioritizes their growth and development.
    • Planning and Attending Student Activities: Organize, plan, and attend student activities and events that promote campus engagement, school spirit, and a sense of community. This may include some nights and weekends to accommodate student schedules and ensure the success of these activities.
    • Student Mentorship: Serve as a mentor and guide for students, assisting them in their leadership journey and personal development. Encourage and support students in their pursuit of leadership roles on campus. Advisor to the Eagle Leads Council
    • Oversight: The AD will oversee 2-3 Student Affairs departments at the Dean of Students discretion.
    • Student Support and Advocacy: Proving support and guidance to students on academic and social matters. This can involve advising and referring to students to appropriate resources and services.
    • Student Retention and Success Initiatives: Collaborating with faculty, staff, and administrators to identify barriers to student success and develop strategies to improve retention rates and graduation outcomes.
    • Policy Development and Implementation: Participating in the development, review, and implementation of institutional policies and procedures related to student affairs, including those pertaining to student conduct, academic integrity, and student rights and responsibilities.
    • Assessment and Data Analysis: Collecting and analyzing data related to student retention and satisfaction and outcomes to inform decision-making and assessing the effectiveness of student support programs and services.

    Qualifications:

    • Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field (preferred).
    • 3 years’ experience in student affairs, Title IX compliance, or a similar role within higher education.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups of stakeholders.
    • Exceptional discretion and the ability to handle confidential matters.
    • Flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
    • Dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive campus environment.
    • Commitment to the mission and values of the College of Southern Idaho.
    • Ability to discern, communicate, and maintain professional boundaries.
    • Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
