Associate Dean of Humanities assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of humanities. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Humanities provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Humanities typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Humanities typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Pacific Buddhist Academy seeks a highly qualified full-time humanities teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree or higher in history, the social sciences, English, or a Humanities-related field, as well as at least 3-5 years of teaching experience in grades 7-12 at an independent school and be comfortable teaching both Social Studies/History and Language Arts courses. Candidates with background or experience coaching sports or other extracurriculars are preferred.
In addition to teaching, we seek educators comfortable assuming an advisory role in our small school setting. The ideal candidate will support the school mission of partnering with students in an intentional community that conveys the importance of interdependence, empowers learners to make individual contributions to the school and broader community, and guides young people to challenge themselves and practice peace in their communities.
PBA has a diverse community of learners, and so the ability to differentiate instruction and to design lessons appealing to a wide variety of learners is also important. Candidates should be comfortable designing and executing interdisciplinary learning that applies humanities-based learning across disciplines and in real-world settings.
