Associate Dean of Law assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of law. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Law provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Law typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Law typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Our firm is currently seeking a full-time family law litigation associate to work in partnership with the managing attorney for complex family law cases. Previous Family law and/or Probate experience is preferred but not mandatory. However, you must have a desire and willingness to learn how to become an excellent litigation trial attorney in the concentration of family law, divorce, custody, legitimation and grandparent rights. You must have a desire to handle high conflict, complex domestic relations cases to achieve the best outcome for clients. Attention to detail and continuing detailed knowledge of case facts is important; dedication to intensive case management is required.
You will be trained to think and act as a family law associate and apply that knowledge to the following responsibilities:
1) Drafting, filing, and correctly serving Family Law Related Pleadings in a timely manner:
a) Motions;
b) Briefs in Support of Motions;
c) Complaints for Divorce, Custody Modifications, Child Support Modification, Legitimation, and Grandparent Visitation/Custody;
d) Request for Production of Documents, Notice to Produce, Request for Admissions, Interrogatories, and Subpoenas; and
e) Legal demand letters.
2) Evidence gathering and creations of exhibits:
a) Send out subpoenas and 3rdparty request for documents;
b) Send out open records requests;
c) Interview witnesses; and
d) Review incoming evidence in each case and convert the evidence to exhibits for upcoming hearings.
3) Attend proceedings with supervision until enough experience and training is acquired for you to be self-sufficient. Types of proceedings include but is not limited to:
a) Pretrial Conferences;
b) Mediation;
c) Expert Witness meetings;
d) Client preparation meetings;
e) Depositions of witnesses;
f) Hearings over Motions for Scheduling Order, Motions for Citation of Contempt, Motion to Compel Discovery, and Motion for Continuance;
g) Temporary and Emergency Hearings where temporary custody, spousal support, child support, and/or possession of marital residence are at issue;
h) Final Hearings where final custody determination, alimony, child support, division of assets and debts, and/or commercial business valuations are at issue; and
i) Jury Trials where final determination of alimony and division of assets and debts are at issue.
Salary and bonuses are determined by the following factors:
a) Your proficiency as a family law associate;
b) Billable hours and complexity of tasks completed per billable hour; and
c) Optimized completion and timely completion of your assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
- For applicants who have graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school , you must have passed the Bar or expected to take and pass the Bar by February, 2024
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school or an expected to graduate in Spring, 2024
- Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
- Strong knowledge of legal principles and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in conducting legal research using Westlaw
- Ability to draft legal documents with accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience in litigation and courtroom procedures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
