    Job Summary
    The Associate Dean for Community Standards leads the College’s processes for addressing and resolving violations of the College’s Academic Honor Code and Social Code. This includes matters that result in conduct hearings, are referred to the Conduct Review Board (CRB), or through restorative routes through our Program for Nonviolence and Conflict Resolution. The Associate Dean oversees the selection of new student CRB members, trains and advises the student and faculty members of the CRB, and guides students, faculty, staff, and supporters regarding the procedures of the formal hearing process. The position requires superb judgment, as the Associate Dean is called on frequently to interpret and implement policy and procedures. In addition, the Associate Dean will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean of Students to support the case management work of the Office of the Dean of Students.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    1. CONDUCT – Serve as the manager of conduct for the Office of the Dean of Students including oversight of (informal) cases and managing precedent. Facilitate and advise formal disciplinary processes, including Conduct Review Board processes.
    2. INCIDENT MANAGMENT SYSTEM – Key manager of Maxient, our incident management system. Assign cases to class deans and have ownership of training, development, and oversee each case.
    3. ADVISE CONDUCT REVIEW BOARD – Advise the CRB, develop and implement their training, facilitate monthly meetings, work closely with the student co-chairs to provide leadership to the group, oversee member selection in the spring semester, and consciously budget all expenditures related to the CRB.
    4. CODE OF COMMUNITY STANDARDS – In partnership with Dean of Students, review and develop policies and processes related to student conduct. Manage the online Code of Community Standards, edit and update it yearly, and ensure that it is detailed and accurate.
    5. RESTORATIVE PRACTICES – Work closely with the Director of Residential Life to facilitate/direct the Program for Nonviolence and Conflict Resolution (PNVCR) and integrate restorative practices into the work of the CRB.
    6. CASE MANAGEMENT – In collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean of Students, provide one-on-one student support, including interventions, advocacy, referrals and follow-up services for students who are experiencing significant difficulties related to mental health, physical health, family emergencies and/or other areas of concern / Serve as back-up chair for the weekly CARE Team meeting.
    7. FACULTY INTERACTION – Consult with faculty regarding potential violations of the Academic Honor Code / Coordinate and implement programs and services related to community standards and academic integrity.
    8. EDUCATION – Work with the Conduct Review Board and members of the College community on education efforts associated with the College’s Academic Honor Code and Social Code, conduct expectations, and the work of the Conduct Review Board.
    9. CERTIFICATIONS – Coordinate the Dean Certification process for alumni regarding employers, healthcare professions, law schools, state bars, and the National Conference of Bar Examiners.
    10. ON CALL – Serve in an on-call capacity for the campus 2-3 times per semester.

    Education/Skills Requirements
    A Master’s degree is preferred. Knowledge of or experience with a diverse residential, liberal arts college is preferred. The successful candidate will enjoy a fast-paced, work environment and have the ability and willingness to work flexible and long hours depending on caseload. Must possess: superb judgment; the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information, work independently, and take initiative; the ability to develop and maintain productive, collegial working relationships and communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and families; excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; a demonstrated ability to manage a complex administrative process consistently, efficiently, and effectively; and demonstrated cultural competence and proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a diverse student population.

    Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
    3-5 years of relevant experience required. This could be defined in many ways, such as experience in higher education, other education, or student affairs, in legal work, or in another applicable field.

    Standard Work Days and Hours
    This position is a .92, which equates to 11 months of the year. Standard hours are generally 8:30-5pm, M-W, but this position will require occasional nights and weekends.
