In the effort to reach more people in the community, NorthPoint is in the midst of a strategic initiative to use their facility as a community center to bless and engage the community. With this strategic initiative, there will be ample opportunities for the Student Pastor to innovate and try new things to connect with middle school and high school students in the area. The Student Pastor will also be given the keys to create and execute a compelling vision for the ministry, and not expected to execute someone else’s plan or what has always been done there. The foundational pieces, volunteers, core students, staff team, budget, and facilities are there for tremendous impact - all that is needed is the right Student Pastor! Could that be you?

Position Overview: The Student Pastor will lead the Student Ministry at NorthPoint Church. This will include leading a team of volunteer leaders and 1 part-time position (Student Ministry Associate) to create effective ministry to middle school students, high school students, and their families. In this role, the Student Pastor will provide regular, consistent ministry to both middle school and high school students that will help students meet and follow Jesus. The Student Pastor will report directly to the Executive Pastor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow Jesus personally, developing a deep relationship with him that becomes the foundation by which ministry is developed and executed.
• Build trust and rapport with students, parents, volunteers, and community members to ensure a foundation for long-lasting ministry.
• Develop a vision and strategy for the student ministry in order to continue to reach and disciple more students in the Greater Des Moines area.
• Provide leadership to Student Ministry Associate (as well as future Student Ministry Staff) and a team of volunteer leaders to execute an effective, holistic youth ministry that is aligned with the mission/vision of the church.
• Work with the Executive Pastor, staff, and volunteer team to ensure the ministry has the appropriate resources and staffing to execute the vision and strategy of the ministry.
• Be a leader of leaders, recruiting and training a volunteer leader team that will allow the ministry to reach and disciple more and more students.
• Be the primary leader and communicator to students, their families, and the volunteer teams.
• Create and manage a discipleship process that cultivates a heart for lifelong discipleship and encourages friendships centered on Jesus.
• Develop and disciple a team of student leaders who will be influencers in the ministry, church, and community.
• Implement systems, processes, and policies to allow the ministry to run effectively, ensure safety, and grow.
• Create and execute a strategy to reach: 1. Students in the church that are not engaged, 2. Students in the community and area schools.
• Partner with and minister to parents so they are well-informed, supported, and equipped to disciple at home.
• Collaborate with the Kids Ministry Director and Young Adults Lead to provide a seamless transition for students entering and aging out of the Student Ministry.
• Function as a member of NorthPoint’s pastoral staff performing baptisms, weddings, funerals, hospital visitations, etc.
• Willingly assist the NorthPoint staff with other ministry projects, as needed.

Job Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree a plus
• At least 3-5 years of experience leading students in a ministry/church setting
• Proven ability to communicate God’s Word effectively to a middle school and high school audience
• Proven ability to lead a team of volunteers/staff, disciple students, cast vision, and organize programs and events
• Demonstrated relationship with Jesus; displaying a life of faith in Jesus, professional maturity, high character, and exhibits the Fruit of the Spirit
