    FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

    Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York, seeks an accomplished practitioner-educator with expertise in Biology to serve on the faculty and support the culture of teaching and learning across the institution.

    This full-time Lecturer position will begin in Fall 2024. For academic year 2024-25, faculty are required to teach a 24-hour course load across Guttman’s two 12-week Fall and Spring semesters and 6-week “Fall II” intersession (visit the Guttman Academic calendar online for dates). Faculty are expected to teach in person although some courses are taught online or in a hybrid format.

    For this position, the successful candidate will have teaching expertise in Biology, or a related field and is interested in teaching biology courses within the Science program of study such as, general biology, microbiology, genetics, and biological chemistry.

    Guttman faculty are also active members of the College Community through participation in collaborative work initiatives that advance the goals of the College.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully. At least two years of successful teaching experience in a college setting (full-time or part-time) required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master’s degree in Biology, Biology/science education or a related field (awarded by start of fall, 2024-2025 academic year) preferred.

    • Minimum of two years documented successful teaching in a college setting in one or more of the following areas: general biology, human biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, genetics, and biological chemistry.

    • Experience with pedagogical practices central to Guttman's educational model such as active learning, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, experiential education,

    • Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective instructional strategies and openness to adopting new practices.

    • Ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

    • Teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, and educational backgrounds

    • An understanding of community college students’ assets and challenges.

    • Use of current technology as it supports teaching and learning.

    • Excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, and written and verbal skills

    We are particularly looking for candidates to address the following specialized experience and demonstrated knowledge in their application materials:

    COMPENSATION

    $76,870 - $83,764; Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
