Asst. Professor - Civil Engineering jobs in Winston Salem, NC

Under general supervision, performs technical professional work related to the planning, design, construction and administration of a variety of public work projects; does related work as required.

Essential Functions

• Review and approve applications for City driveway permits.
• Review and approve design plans for private developments.
• Engineering review for zoning cases and commercial building permits.
• Review and approves utility excavation and encroachment permits.
• Works with and provides technical information to City officials, employees, contractors, State officials and the public. 
• Performs site visits related to projects.
• Assists with utility and infrastructure inspections.
• Assists staff with specification revisions.

Education and Experience

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and extensive experience in professional civil engineering work.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
• Knowledge of NCDOT specifications and State and Federal regulations as they relate to public works projects.
• Possession of excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Possession of strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.

Special Requirements:

• Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina
• Have or be able to obtain a valid North Carolina's driver's license.
• Prior plan review and permitting experience preferred. 

Physical Requirements:

(Reasonable accommodations may substitute for any physical requirements listed): Must be able to maneuver consistently within the work area; must be able to move up to 50 lbs and maneuver up to one mile; must be able to jump, crawl and climb; must be able to work with small and large objects. This position will work primarily indoors and may be exposed to repetitive motion/operations and long periods of sitting.
