The School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences (SPBS) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces two openings for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in Clinical Psychology. Candidates of advanced assistant or associate professor standing will be considered for hire depending on willingness to serve as program director of clinical training. Candidates for our clinical psychology positions must receive their Ph.D. from an APA-accredited Clinical program by August 2025 and should be able to supervise graduate students in practicum. The anticipated starting date for all positions is August 16, 2025.
We seek two candidates who can contribute to one of our two specialty tracks – Adult or Child clinical psychology. Area of research specialization is open, but candidates are expected to conduct productive and programmatic research and compete for extramural research funding. Candidates are also expected to teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, with preference given to candidates with interest in one or more of the following courses: Psychological Assessment, Multicultural Psychology, Clinical Skills, or Ethics. Competitive candidates will be able to supervise graduate students in practicum and are expected to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research.
Postdoctoral experience and eligibility for license as a Clinical Psychologist in Illinois are preferred. We are particularly interested in applicants who can serve as a mentor and role model for students in this program which is highly diverse and values social justice. The Clinical program is accredited by APA, and our faculty specialize in the areas of anxiety treatment, autism, forensic psychology/corrections, parenting, violence prevention, and neuropsychology, among others. We have a university-based Clinical Center, and a Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders. There are opportunities to collaborate with our faculty at these and other university centers, with rural community mental health centers, substance use and neurorehabilitation facilities, SIU School of Medicine, the Bureau of Prisons, and juvenile justice facilities.
