    Summary:

    The Chemist shall provide technical environmental chemistry support for various environmental remediation and monitoring projects. The chemist will utilize their knowledge of the fate and transport of organics and inorganics in environmental media to assist in work planning, field efforts, and reporting. The chemist may also be identified as a Project Chemist, responsible for the overall management of sampling and analysis plans, quality assurance project plans, laboratory selection, performing field screening, collecting analytical samples, performing project-level data quality management, and/or evaluating data usability. The chemist supports multiple projects, programs, and associated clients at the same time and must have excellent communication skills. Chemists must be able to set priorities, take ownership of assigned tasks, work efficiently, and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment.

    The salary range for this position is $55,894-$124,995/year, please note this is a tiered position.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities - All Levels: (including but not limited to)

    • Conduct laboratory analytical data review (Levels II, III, and Senior)
    • Review and interpret chromatograms
    • Prepare Sampling and Analysis Plans, QAPPs, Data Quality Objectives, ADEC Laboratory Data Review Checklists, and Data Quality Reports (DQR) in accordance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff
    • Communicate with environmental laboratories, evaluate laboratories for compliance with contract requirements, and complete laboratory corrective action monitoring plans
    • Conduct and oversee site investigation and assessments in accordance with Federal and State regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff
    • Adhere to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management
    • Control time and expenditures to achieve project goals
    • Update job knowledge by reading historical documentation, publications, and other information specifically related to applicable disciplines
    • Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to assigned tasks
    • Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation
    • Review and provide documentation of environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements
    • Prepare charts or graphs from data samples, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data
    • Demonstrate data management skills to upload chemical data into databases such as ERPIMS, ERIS, and various geodatabases.
    • Determine appropriate analytical methods for on-site surveys and investigations.

    Level Specific Responsibilities: (may include but not limited to)

    Level - I

    • Project assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on assigned tasks
    • Execute assigned tasks in accordance with work plans and direction from higher-level staff
    • Acquire and/or develop an area of technical expertise
    • Engage program and project managers for task assignments
    • 10% - 25% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations

    Level - II

    • Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects
    • Maintain 1-2 areas of technical expertise
    • Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
    • Technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents
    • Assist with task order and project proposals
    • Technical mentoring
    • 10% - 25% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations

    Level - III

    • Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on projects
    • Maintain 2 areas of technical expertise
    • Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
    • Lead technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents
    • Assist with task order and project proposals
    • Project staffing and technical mentoring
    • Manage smaller projects involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks
    • 10% - 25% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations

    Level - Senior

    • Provide client assistance to program and project managers; scope, schedule, and budget on
    • Maintain 2-3 areas of technical expertise
    • Lead technical project execution and document preparation, senior review project documents
    • Prepare task orders and project proposals
    • Project staffing and technical mentoring
    • Manage projects involving site characterization, long-term monitoring, and similar tasks
    • 10% - 25% of time may be spent conducting fieldwork, potentially in remote locations

    Minimum Qualifications

    All levels:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related field
    • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER
    • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle
    • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access and PowerPoint
    • Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing

    Level - I

    • Zero (0) to Three (3) years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience

    Level - II

    • Three (3) to Five (5) years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience

    Level - III

    • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience

    Level - Senior

    • Eight (8) or more years of relevant working experience, specialized training, and/or an advanced degree such as MS may be substituted for work experience
    • Previous experience with staff management

    Preferred Qualifications

    • ADEC Qualified Person
    • 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
    • CPR/1st Aid Certified
    • Experience working on projects with Federal clients
    • Experience with creating and maintaining databases
    • Previous experience with risk assessment and/or toxicology
    • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
