Athletic Trainer treats and prevents athletic injuries by developing therapies to reduce pain and improve mobility under the direction of a physician. Assists in exercise instruction and demonstration, patient evaluation and testing. Being an Athletic Trainer may require state license to practice. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in exercise science, sports science or equivalent. Additionally, Athletic Trainer typically requires certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Athletic Trainer occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer, the incumbent is responsible for the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for members of the Men’s Basketball and Men’s Golf teams.
- Coordinates and executes athletic training program for assigned sport(s), placing the safety of all student-athletes as the highest priority.
- Communicates with and informs the Head Athletic Trainer regarding any concerns associated with student-athlete welfare.
- Supports the athletic training needs of other sports/programs as necessary.
- Helps maintain inventory of all athletic training equipment.
- Master’s degree in athletic training or related field.
- Two years of athletic training experience, preferably in college athletics.
- NATA-BOC certification.
- Eligibility for South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control certification.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and treat athletic injuries.
- Ability to execute all required functions of a comprehensive athletic training program.
- Ability to accept and successfully complete assigned duties and follow all institutional, Big South and NCAA policies and bylaws.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes.
