    Primary purpose:

    This position will function as operations geologist for appraisal and development of carbon sequestration projects with primary responsibility for developing and maintaining Operations Geology as a subdiscipline, including building processes and protocols and eventual build out of well delivery team. This role fits within a multidisciplinary subsurface sequestration development team.


    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • Provide onsite (for stratigraphic test wells) supervision of all coring and well logging operations; remain on-call during drilling operations from drilling out surface casing to completion and processing of logging.
    • Participate in daily drilling meetings during well operations. 
    • Work with petrophysicist, compliance team, project geologist, geophysicist and reservoir engineer to develop formation evaluation plan that aligns with EPA Class VI permitting requirements.
    • Solicit geoscience-related vendor quotes and be an integral member of the vetting and selection process (Coring, core analysis, mud logging)
    • Provide well planning support, working closely with Wells Delivery Manager.
    • Prepare technical summary report of well results
    • Communicate results and findings to team and management. 
    • Coordinate with team to develop and implement baseline, injection, and post-injection monitoring plan that aligns with EPA Class VI permitting requirements; responsible for monitoring logging runs, sampling, and QC and delivery of monitoring data to the subsurface team.


    Minimum requirements:


    Education:

    • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Earth Science is required. 


    Preferred Qualifications/ Experience:

    • Basic Petrel experience
    • Operations geology experience
    • Working knowledge in Geophysics and Petrophysics


    Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

    • A minimum of 7 years of hands-on industrial experience in operations geology is required.  
    • Experience in multiple basins is an advantage. 
    • Technical skills in wellsite geology, drilling operations, mud logging, LWD/MWD, and wireline operations are required.  
    • Relevant experience in areas of hydro-geologic concepts, well operations, mudlogging data interpretation and geophysical data analyses will be an advantage. 
    • Knowledge on Petrel skills and ability to display and interpret multiple data sets. 
    • Working knowledge in basic seismic interpretation experience (2D & 3D) in the context of rock and fluid properties.  
    • Must be self-motivated and ambitious, ability to organize and prioritize daily work with the ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines. 
    • Individual is capable of problem solving autonomously but is not afraid to ask questions when he/she arrives at a possible solution that deviates from the stated directions. 
    • Must be able to perform all essential and marginal functions of the job. 
    • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, adhere to required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.  
    • Job level commensurate with experience and skill sets; position will be filled depending on qualifications, experience and skill sets of the successful candidate.

    • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed. 
    • Primarily working in an office environment, with well site operations and travel as needed.  
    • Working after hours, nights, weekends, holidays as needed.
