Health, Welfare & Insurance Fund Teamsters Union Local 653 (“HWI653”) is seeking a Benefits Manager, reporting directly to the HWI653 Board of Trustees, and on a daily basis to the Principal Officer/Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Union Local 653. The ideal candidate is an experienced manager who will oversee and be actively involved in benefit operations, eligibility and compliance; accounts payable; accounts receivable and information technology.
This is an in-office position; however, accommodation may be made for occasional remote work. The mission of the Benefits Manager is to ensure that members and their dependents receive best-in-class service, and to operate HWI653 in the members’ current and future best interests.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Oversee day-to-day operations;
-Ensure financial and operational accuracy and compliance of the administration of the plans;
-Process accounts payable and monitor accounts receivable;
-Establish and monitor operational policies, procedures and performance;
-Provide leadership and guidance to two direct reports;
-Ensure compliance with relevant plan statutes, regulations and requirements;
-Consult with outside professionals on compliance and legal maters as needed;
-Assist in submission of government mandated forms and data;
-Remain informed of all plan provisions for all benefit plans;
-Ensure adequate systems and technology: Ensure systems are maintained and updated to support HWI653’s recordkeeping, benefit processing, cybersecurity and member service needs.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following requirements:
-Work Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing health benefits for a Ta-Hartley Fund or related health benefits management experience.
-Educaon: Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree and certifications (e.g., CEBS).
Special Skills or Credentials:
• Experience with multi-employer fund operations and knowledge of health benefit plans as well as related governmental/legislative regulations (ERISA, DOL, HIPAA, ACA, etc.), including knowledge of plan design and interpretation;
• Proven leadership skills and “hands-on” managerial style;
• Reliable and dependable, with strong decision-making and organisational skills;
• Excellent interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills;
• Proficiency with current technology (especially Word, Excel and Outlook) and experience with benefits administration systems, such as ISSI;
• Comprehensive understanding of the regulatory environment.
