Tierra Data Inc. (TDI) seeks a staff biologist who is familiar with California native restoration practices and invasive plant ecology to support our Habitat Restoration Team in the Lompoc area. This role is to provide biological support to field teams undertaking habitat restoration work comprising invasive species control and native plant and seed installation.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate relevant biological knowledge to field teams and help direct them to ensure success on restoration sites, and can gather, analyze and use data effectively to provide high quality outputs for clients and build capacity for restoration projects. Must be able to work both independently and within a collaborative team, show excellent scheduling and problem-solving skills, and a positive and efficient work ethic.
Expectations of 60% field work and 40% office
Starting Date : ASAP
RESPONSIBILITIES
May include but not limited to:
· Support coordination of natural resources and habitat restoration projects
· Conduct biological resource surveys
· Participate in meetings with TDI staff and clients.
· Assist with the preparation of all levels of biological documents
· Complete daily reports accurately and submit to Project Managers on a timely basis
· Demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative with these tasks while representing TDI in a professional manner
· Work closely with Project Managers and Senior Biologists to promote our business interests in adherence with the company’s mission, vision, and values
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
· Candidates should hold at least a BS degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, planning or a related discipline. An MA /MS is preferred.
Experience
· Strong knowledge of native and non-native plant identification
· Demonstrated competency with biological survey methodologies.
Licenses or Certificates
· Valid California Driver’s License
Other Desired Skills
· California Qualified Applicator’s Certificate for pesticide use
· Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
· Collector, Field Maps and Other GIS tools
· Strong organizational, communication, writing, and analytical skills
· Ability to foster a friendly, positive, productive, and scholarly working relationship with team members while promoting a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and client satisfaction
· Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
Position requires prolonged moving, walking, stooping and kneeling. Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and exposure to elements 8 to 10 hours per day. Frequently walking on rough and uneven terrain. Exposure to materials, tools, herbicides and equipment used in construction and landscaping. This position is full-time.
Proposed Compensation Range: $24-35 hourly*
*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
