Biomedical Engineer applies engineering and scientific principles and methodologies to design and develop medical technologies and devices to support and enhance patient care and improve healthcare outcomes. Conducts research and testing to address specific medical conditions, improve the performance of existing devices, and develop new products. Being a Biomedical Engineer collaborates with medical professionals to gather information for product specifications. Ensures that designs and devices meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements and standards, such as the FDA regulations and ISO standards. Additionally, Biomedical Engineer utilizes or develops software to perform testing or integrate with devices. Requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related engineering or science discipline. Typically reports to a manager. The Biomedical Engineer work is closely managed.     Salary Range: $32.80 - $49.43 / hour

     

    The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

    Pay for PRN positions is calculated differently than Full-Time, Regular Part-Time, and Part-Time positions. PRN Rates depend on the position and other factors, including years of experience, or shift commitment according to the department policy. PRN differential is added in certain positions.

    Responsibilities

    Position Overview: 

    Provides support system wide, through the maintenance, evaluation, receiving and documentation of assigned medical equipment.  Provides consultation, instruction and/or technical direction for staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment.

     

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, tests, calibrates, repairs, and inspects biomedical equipment as required by relevant standards.
  • Maintains and updates inventory of CMHS’s biomedical equipment. 
  • Maintains a spare parts inventory to minimize disruption of patient care.
  • Add new inventory and complete necessary safety checks in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Available for on-call duty. Provides emergency service for biomedical equipment.
  • Maintains documentation for equipment compliance.
  • Respond to appropriate codes.
  • Travel to locations outside the main facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Required:

    • Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or related field; OR One (1) year directly related work experience
    • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Etc)
    • Basic networking knowledge
    • Strong understanding of electronic, mechanical, and medical terminology
    • Problem solving skills
    • Great communication and organization skills

    Preferred:

    • AAMI Certificate
