The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to work in the Cardiac Systems Biology Research Group laboratory focusing on computational modeling of the dynamics of heart failure and its regulation by molecular networks.
The applicant will be expected to interact with graduate students, perform computational research, and contribute to publications.
The successful candidate will participate as part of a collaborative research team which combines experimental and computational methods to identify mechanisms and drug treatments for heart failure. The incumbent will be mentored by Dr. Saucerman of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and receive training in computational systems biology. Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.
Minimum Requirements:
Doctoral degree
Preferred Qualifications:- Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field. Coursework in linear algebra, differential equations, computational biomedical engineering, and digital image processing.
- Computer programming in Python, experience in mathematical modeling of cardiovascular physiology, and experimental skills in molecular biology and quantitative cardiac physiology; strong oral and written communication skills; and the ability to interact collegially with undergraduate and graduate students.
This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. Salary is $55,000- $61,000, commensurate with education and experience.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
