The Grounds and Landscape Specialist performs a variety of complex grounds maintenance duties and specialized event work. The position assists in landscape design and plant selection; installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems; application of pesticides; repairs small machine grounds equipment; and helps coordinate campus events.

Work is performed primarily outdoors, on varying terrain (some potentially hazardous), in all types of extreme weather conditions and involves use of maintenance related substances. The incumbent is expected to follow College work rules and policies. This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. Incumbent is also expected to follow proper operational procedures in the use of grounds equipment, machinery, tools and supplies. Regularly required to operate demanding equipment. Position involves recurring early and late hours with exposure to hazardous chemicals, exposure to dirt¸ dust, fumes¸ pollen¸ noise extremes, insecticides, fungicide and fertilizer. Some work may occur at heightened elevations. Strength and agility, and extended standing and heavy lifting are required. The employee is regularly required use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and requires near visual acuity to write, read written materials and computer screens, and sufficient hearing and speech ability for ordinary telephonic conversations. Physical movements involve guiding, feeding materials into proper position. Lifting objects vary daily, ranging between 1 – 80 pounds. The incumbent must be able to climb trees and use ladders for pruning work, and walking long distances that may include stairways and hills. Must be able to climb or pull self upward, kneel, stoop, crawl and crouch. Computer screen is used less than 5 percent of the time. Position involves extended standing with some lifting less than 10 pounds for 40 percent of the time. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
