Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor.     The Division of Adult Institution is recruiting to fill a Buildings and Grounds Supervisor position. This position is based out of Racine Correctional Institution (Sturtevant, WI, Racine County).

    Position Summary

    The position is responsible for directing the Racine Correctional Institution buildings and grounds maintenance and repair program. This position supervises and directs the work of maintenance staff, establishes programs to provide staff training; performs inspections, investigates problem areas and implements any required corrective action to keep critical systems operating; provides emergency repair services, ensure safety and code compliance, establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs, reviews relevant project documents and blueprints; purchases maintenance supplies and services, insures that inventories are maintained, performs record keeping and other administrative duties, supervises Persons In Our Care (PIOC) workers and maintains security in work areas.
    Salary Information

    This position is in pay schedule/range 81-04 with an annual salary of $64,043 - $77,584 , plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the State Compensation Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve-month probationary period is required.

    Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
    The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
    The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
    Qualifications

    Minimally qualified applicants will have experience: Supervisory/lead worker experience (e.g. training, assigning duties, reviewing work, staffing process, interviewing candidates, hiring recommendations) Maintaining or repairing systems commonly used in building/institution complexes. (i.e. heating, cooling & refrigeration systems, electric and mechanical equipment, food service equipment, grounds equipment, security systems, building structure components, plumbing, electrical, computerized and mechanical systems, and vehicles.) Planning and directing the maintenance and repair of service systems. (i.e. telephone, radio, computer local network, electric, security fences, cameras, natural gas, water distribution systems and storm, and sanitary sewer system.)
    In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience: Establishing and maintaining safety training programs and safety policy implementations including fire codes, ADA accessibility, building codes, material handling safety, lockout/tag out procedures, confined space entry. Experience planning and purchasing materials for maintenance projects
