Building Inspector, Sr. inspects initial construction and additional repairs to ensure adherence to contract specifications, building ordinances, and zoning laws. May be assigned to residential or commercial structures. Being a Building Inspector, Sr. may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. The Building Inspector, Sr. gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Successful candidates will perform asbestos and lead-based paint building inspections, indoor air quality investigations, abatement monitoring, industrial hygiene testing, safety services, environmental testing, technical writing, and report preparation.
EDUCATION: BS degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or closely related field. High school diploma or equivalent will be considered for currently Licensed Asbestos Inspectors or Licensed Lead Risk Assessors in lieu of college degree.
EXPERIENCE: One to ten years of responsible experience related to environmental sampling, monitoring, industrial hygiene testing, instrumentation, and laboratory analyses. Good writing skills.
SKILLS/CERTIFICATIONS: The following skills and certifications will improve candidate selection: Licensed asbestos inspector, licensed lead inspector/risk assessor, lead project designer, microbiologist (capable of identifying fungal species), NIOSH 582 training, McCrone microscopy training, 40 hr HAZWOPR, XRF Training, Trainer for OSHA General Industry and Construction 10 hour and 30 hour safety classes.
