Building Inspector, Sr. inspects initial construction and additional repairs to ensure adherence to contract specifications, building ordinances, and zoning laws. May be assigned to residential or commercial structures. Being a Building Inspector, Sr. may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. The City of Altoona is seeking qualified candidates for the specialized position of Building Inspector within the Codes and Inspections Department. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the practices and procedures related to building construction and/or building alterations; have the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with contractors, State and Federal regulatory agencies, design professionals, residential and commercial building owners, and the general public while promoting the City’s goal of enforcing building codes.
Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of building codes adopted in conformance with the Uniform Construction Code, along with general knowledge of municipal government codes and ordinances. A Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code Certification for Building Inspector and Building Plans Examiner are required upon hire, or within six (6) months of appointment.
