Business Continuity Manager leads the implementation and supports the development of a comprehensive business continuity strategy and programs, plans, and toolsets that support response, develop resiliency, and enable recovery from events that disrupt business operations. Establishes a framework and methodology to manage all business continuity life cycle activities, including risk assessment, business impact analysis, strategy development, implementation, testing and review, plan maintenance and updates. Being a Business Continuity Manager leads periodic review, validation, and workflow testing of documented business continuity plans. Develops and implements organization-wide training and communications. Additionally, Business Continuity Manager supports internal audits and regulatory exams of compliance with required regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. May require the Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or similar BCP certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Business Continuity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Business Continuity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Norfolk Southern Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Manager, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-wide resilience framework for business continuity and disaster recovery.

    This enterprise-wide role requires program facilitation across NS by working with various internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for communicating, developing, implementing, maintaining, and managing the governance of enterprise BCDR program. This program will support IT systems' resilience and timely IT and non-IT operations recovery, regardless of cause, enabling business operations to recover from non-IT disruptions. You will be able to translate business operations recovery requirements into action-oriented plans, programs, and recovery testing strategies.

    Responsibilities
    • Manages the development, implementation, and optimization of BC and DR framework programs in alignment with business objectives and risk tolerance of Norfolk Southern.
    • Demonstrates strategic thinking, and effectively link the enterprise's BCDR activities with business operations recovery and continuity requirements on a proactive basis.
    • Identifies and evaluates risk and mitigation opportunities related to BC and DR.
    • Provides essential BC and DR subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Leads tabletop and other tests of recovery plans, including coordinating with data center teams and vendors.
    • Collaborates with other risk, safety, compliance, and operation teams to implement continuity plans and supporting technologies.
    • Establishes and communicates objectives for BC and DR program elements to business unit and management audiences, including metrics and measures of success.
    • Partners with Enterprise Architecture and other key IT teams to analyze systems and interdependent business functions and processes to identify risks, points of failure, and vulnerabilities.
    • Develops and proposes risk mitigation strategies to management by applying knowledge of principles, best practice, standards, and emerging trends for BCDR.
    • Communicates with partners and stakeholders regarding BCDR initiatives, policies, practices, and updates.
    • Consults with business unit partners and cross-functional peers on necessary BCDR plan elements, including requirements and accounting of resources.
    • Plans, manages, and facilitates annual business impact analyses (BIA).
    • Solicits and reviews business unit and department BC and DR processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
    • Tests, trains, and exercises internal and external stakeholders on BCDR programs and projects.
    • Designs after action assessments for tests, training, and exercises of BCDR to keep the IT organization prepared to manage business disruptions.
    • Monitors and reports to senior management on BCDR program performance.
    Required Experience:
    • 7 -10 years managing enterprise-wide Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery programs.
    • Program implementation experience of risk frameworks for BCDR.
    • Experience with IT Data Center Disaster Recovery.
    • Knowledge and understanding of established BCP/DR frameworks (DRI, ISO)

    Preferred Skills:

    • 7-10 years in People Leadership of high performing teams in a collaborative and complex environment.
    • 5 years experience in a critical IT infrastructure environment.
    • E2E program experience with business continuity planning, business impact analysis, emergency preparedness, disaster recovery planning, testing, and training.
    • Business Continuity and Operational Resiliency applications such as: Castellan, Riskonnect, Fusion Risk Management, Everbridge, Archer Resilience Management, and Infinite Blue BC
    • BCP/DR Certifications: CBCP, CBCI, CBRM, BCRP, MBCP, BCCE, ISO 22301, ISO 27001

    Education
    Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information technology or related degree preferred.
