    The Director of Development is responsible for developing and implementing the operational plan of the Development Department, which includes a comprehensive program in public and church relations to attract sufficient interest in current operations and capital growth. The Director will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including capital campaigns, mini-campaigns, annual appeals, special events, grants, and planned giving.
    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Promotes positive public relations and awareness through speaking engagements and church and community communications.
    • Director of Development explores and identifies innovative revenue streams beyond traditional fundraising methods. This includes exploring social enterprise opportunities, partnerships, and creative approaches to generate income and achieve annual goals.
    • Oversees prospect research and moves management process for major gift donors.
    • Builds and maintains donor relationships by developing the prospect’s awareness of, knowledge of, interest in, involvement with, and commitment to Bethany’s mission.
    • Plans and oversees all appeals and fundraising communications.
    • Manages department’s annual calendar to coordinate appeals.
    • Managing a comprehensive donor database is crucial for personalized communication and effective stewardship. The Director of Development oversees the implementation and maintenance of donor management systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • The Director of Development contributes to enhancing the organization's brand and image. Through effective storytelling and communication, they showcase the non-profit's impact and values, creating a positive and compelling narrative for donors and supporters.
    • Staying compliant with legal and ethical standards in fundraising is paramount. The Director of Development ensures that all fundraising activities adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines, safeguarding the organization's reputation.
    • The Director of Development focuses on measuring the impact of donor contributions and fundraising efforts. This involves developing systems to track and report outcomes, providing transparency to donors and stakeholders about how their support is making a difference.
    • Directs Bethany Children’s Home Planned Giving Ministry to the churches in PSE Conference and works with the Penn Central Planned Giving Partnership of the United Church of Christ.
    • Plan and execute special events that engage donors and raise funds for the organization.
    • Staying abreast of evolving trends in philanthropy and fundraising is crucial. The Director of Development monitors industry trends, technological advancements, and changes in donor behavior, ensuring the organization adapts and remains relevant.
    • During times of crisis or emergencies, the Director of Development plays a pivotal role in quickly mobilizing fundraising efforts. Whether responding to a disaster or unforeseen financial challenges, their expertise is essential for timely and effective fundraising.
    • Engaging and developing the board of directors is an important aspect of the Director of Development's role. They work to align the board with fundraising goals, facilitate fundraising training, and ensure active participation in fundraising activities.
    • The Director of Development is responsible for monitoring and analyzing fundraising data to evaluate performance and adjust strategies where needed. This includes tracking donor engagement and retention rates, analyzing revenue streams, and collaborating with leadership to make data-driven decisions that guide the organization towards achieving its fundraising goals.
    • Attending team meetings as required.
    • Attend training seminars/conferences as needed to promote continued growth and development to job roles.
    • Work with the Conferences of the United Church of Christ that are related to Bethany Children's Home in conjunction with the Senior Director of Spiritual Wellness and Inclusion.
    • Willingness to travel on an as needed basis for Bethany Children’s Home.
    • The Director of Development is instrumental in building the organization's capacity by developing and implementing strategies to increase its financial and operational capabilities. This involves expanding infrastructure, enhancing team skills, cultivating donor and sponsor relationships, and fostering a culture of growth.
    • A nonprofit organization’s volunteer network is crucial to their success in fundraising efforts. The Director of Development will create and implement a volunteer management system to track and grow the network as well as nurture volunteer relationships.
    • The Director of Development will be dedicated to the coaching and professional development of their direct reports. This will include providing consistent supervision, team meetings, goal planning, and seeking internal or external growth opportunities as needed.
