Business Development Manager manages the daily execution of the business development strategy, plans, and processes to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives. Coaches teams in best practices and effective tactics for prospecting new markets, partners, channels, and customers. Being a Business Development Manager establishes team targets and metrics to measure the achievement of objectives. Develops and uses contacts and relationships within the industry, business environment, and customer base to understand and respond to competition, pricing, and product demand changes. Additionally, Business Development Manager makes suggestions for new product offerings or improvements to sales or marketing efforts. May administer or negotiate new business proposals and prepare contracts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Business Development Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Business Development Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Business Development Manager is responsible for handling the most important client accounts in the company.  The Business Development Manager will serve as the main point of contact for all key client matters and is responsible for anticipating clients’ needs.  The Business Development Manager is also responsible for identifying new business and developing relationships, with the goal of increased Sales.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Develops, maintains, and executes the annual new business Plan.
    • Responsible for identification and capture of new business opportunities with new and existing customers.
    • Acts to increase new business capture rate and while maintaining existing business. Develops and utilizes market intelligence effectively.
    • Works cross-functionally across Sales, Customer Service, Engineering, Operations, and Management.
    • Attend trade shows and conferences to support business capture to create & maintain customer relationships.
    • Ownership of New Business proposal development, including market analysis, cost/price analysis, schedule development, risk analysis, etc.
    • Manages new business opportunities through the selling cycle resulting in improved win rates and improved business cases.
    • Conducts competitive research, evaluates sales performance, and formulates goals and milestones for specific products and systems. Applies thorough understanding of technical capabilities, operational capacity, and market information to influence plans and strategies.
    • Develops and maintains relationships with customers to gain knowledge of future market and customer needs to further develop business opportunities.
    • Identifies opportunities for business development by studying competitors’ products, benchmarking, problems, market intelligence, and identifying trends.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of principles, industry practices, company products, technology, regulations, service capabilities, and policies related to marketing and business development.
    • Position will require domestic and international travel to meet with customers, attend trade shows, and other sales-related initiatives. Travel up to 40%. 

    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or a related degree is required
    • At least five (5) years of professional-level experience in industrial markets & applications, or equivalent relevant experience.  Aerospace experience preferred, but not required.
    • Must have prior experience with business development, account management, and contract negotiation.
    • HarcoSemco is proud to be a Federal contractor and supplier of material to the US Department of Defense.  To conform with US export regulations and ITAR 120.15 and EAR Part 772, incumbents for this role should be eligible for any required authorizations from the US government. 
    • ???????Must have or be able to obtain a valid US Passport for business-related travel.

    • Knowledge of program management and business processes and procedures, including technical and business proposal development.
    • Experience working on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangible variables and/or incomplete data; understand problems from a broad, long-term perspective.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex policies and recommend changes to procedures.
    • Ability to respond to significant inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
    • Must be a proficient communicator and listener
     
    Physical Demands & Work Environment
    • Some light physical effort required
    • Sitting, standing, reaching, bending, and moving
    • Must be able to push, pull, and lift at least 20 lbs.
    • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally to meet with customers
