    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Serves as the senior lead of the AMA Artificial Intelligence team, providing task management and direction for each of the team’s members.
    • Assemble and mentor a high-caliber AI solutions team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning and improvement.
    • Develop and oversee a robust AI strategy and governance framework, ensuring alignment with overall agency objectives and ethical AI practices.
    • Lead the charge in developing and deploying cutting-edge AI and ML models to unlock new business insights and propel growth, while ensuring solutions are user-friendly and meet high performance benchmarks.
    • Spearhead research initiatives into emerging AI technologies, methodologies, and applications, translating complex ideas into viable business solutions.
    • Articulate complex AI concepts and the value of AI initiatives in clear, compelling terms to stakeholders at all levels, guiding data-informed decision-making processes.
    • Work with the Alabama Medicaid Information Security Office (ISO) to ensure that all AMA AI solutions are designed and developed to ensure the confidentiality, Integrity, and availability of the system and that AMA, CMS, IRS, and SSA data use, storage, transfer, and other security control requirements are met.
    • Ensure that all Information System Security Certification & Accreditation (C&A) processes are followed so that agency-developed AI solutions can attain Authority to Operate (ATO) and Authority to Connect (ATC) from Authorizing Officials and other regulatory bodies when necessary.
    • Advises the Chief Information Officer (CIO) on AI opportunities and emerging related technologies, as well as, the results of cost/benefit analysis of AI program policies, procedures, and technological implementations.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to develop and manage AI-based solutions utilizing both commercial and open-source products.
    • Experience in the Implementation of Large Language Models (LLMs) for production use and configuration of API Endpoints (for connecting to AI resources)
    • Experience with the use, configuration, & management of Cloud-based AI technologies & services
    • Experience with application containerization and virtualization deployment technologies
    • Experience with GPUs implementation for AI & Machine Learning projects (managing thermals, drivers, tensor core use, etc.)
    • Experience implementing AI / LLM security best practices and ensuring that PHI / PII is protected from disclosure by AI systems.
    • Expert-level knowledge of government regulations related to healthcare IT and security frameworks and their associated requirements.
    • Experience with the Implementation of Retrieval Augmented Generation (vector databases, embedding, etc.).
    • Ability to fine-tune LLMs for specific tasks / domains.
    • Experience using security package workflow management tools to manage C&A related tasks for AI projects.
    • Familiarity with AI Prompt Engineering for business use cases.
    • Familiarity with Python coding for developing AI solutions.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Information Technology, or a related field.Ten (10) years of Information Technology experience with at least one (1) year demonstrated experience in the development, deployment, and management of AI and ML models, with a pragmatic understanding of leveraging in-house versus external technologies.
    • Five (5) years’ experience working in Information Systems Security, or related Information Assurance role.
    • One (1) year experience in a leadership role over at least two (2) or more subordinate team members
