CAD Designer jobs in Montana

Salary Range: $29.4047 - $39.3766/hour, salary reflects Step 1 and Step 7 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, to provide design and drafting services for projects and tasks and maintain and update various maps and databases.  

Scope of Responsibility:

Incumbents have a high degree of understanding of department or functional operations and are able to work with considerable initiative.  Working under management guidance, incumbents administer operating rules and procedures and may establish precedents within defined limits.   Work product has noticeable impact on departmental operations with moderate impact on the overall organization.   Incumbents have frequent interaction with staff, co-workers and key customers to provide detailed procedures and respond to technical questions.  

Design and CAD Technician Duties

• Researches records, plats, maps, easements, utility information, and other data pertaining to engineering projects.
• Incorporates survey and topographic data into project design.
• Performs design and drafting work which involves compliance with construction codes, ordinances, policies, and plans. Develops designs in accordance with standard engineering practice.
• Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete municipal infrastructure projects.
• Updates and manages design standard drawings.
• Demonstrates commitment to compliance with project CAD standards.

Division Operations

• Maintains complete and accurate files and databases including City map, street miles for gas tax reporting, data for Census reporting, and miscellaneous data.
• Maintains and updates Division CAD templates and standards.
• Responds to and resolves public inquiries and complaints.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Associate’s degree, technical school degree, or specialized CAD certification with specialized training beyond high school, or equivalent
• Strong interpersonal skills
• A valid Montana driver’s license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

• Auto CAD Civil 3-D design and drafting background experience in roadway, corridor modeling, and municipal utility plan production
• Experience with city government and knowledge of department or function operations.

Work is a combination of an office environment and an outside environment.   Occasional physical effort involving lifting of 60 pounds or less is required.  Work requires high attention to detail or deadlines. Exposure to disagreeable elements at least one of which is intense between 15% and 45% of the time.  It is necessary to drive frequently.
