Prepares computer-aided design (CAD) drafts, drawings, and schematics derived from a variety of specifications, layouts, blueprints, and sketches. Being a CAD Drafter maintains deadlines, goals, and production standards set by the department. Coordinates and consults with engineers or designers to complete projects. Additionally, CAD Drafter transforms initial rough product designs into working documents using CAD software. Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The CAD Drafter work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a CAD Drafter typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. CAD Designer
Responsibilities:
- Create detailed 2D and 3D models using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Revit
- Collaborate with engineers and architects to develop design concepts
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to ensure structural integrity of designs
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to drawings
- Generate accurate bills of materials (BOMs) for production
- Review and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Conduct design reviews and provide feedback for improvements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project deadlines are met
- Assist in the assembly and testing of prototypes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Revit
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Knowledge of Pro/ENGINEER, Bluebeam, or other related software is a plus
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
