    NOTE: Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an excepted or competitive service appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance. Intermittent positions offer health insurance only if the employee is expected to work at least 130 hours per month for at least 90 days.

    Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

    • Operates a wide variety of grounds maintenance equipment, such as tractors, weed eaters, saws, scythes, snow removal equipment, hand tools, tree and bush trimmers, equipment used to clean ditches, complete demolition, cut grass, weed control, clean-up grounds, etc.
    • Maintains grounds in all types of weather conditions and is subject to exposure to the elements during equipment operations, refueling, and changing flat tires.
    • Operates gasoline and/or diesel-powered equipment with attachments which operate from behind, underneath, and/or in front of the equipment on level, slopes, and hilly terrain.
    • Performs labor, gardener, and tractor operator duties and uses various power mowers to cut grass.
    • Adjusts mower blades, sharpens mower blades, cleans and lubricates mowers, and performs minor repairs to landscaping equipment.
    • Prunes and cuts down trees and shrubs using shears, chain saw, or axe.
    • Shovels snow by hand, rakes leaves, waters and weeds grass, and controls weeds in bed (i.e., flower beds, etc.), often trimming around mowing obstacles.
    • Performs snow removal during and after regular work hours, on weekends, and on holidays as weather conditions require.
    • Performs other related duties necessary.

    Qualifications

    SCREEN-OUT: Requires the ability to do the work of a Tractor Operator without more than normal supervision. Experience includes performing grounds maintenance of a healthcare and/or commercial/industrial environment working independently. I have operated a wide variety of grounds equipment such as tractors, weed eaters, snow removal equipment, hand tools, tree and bush trimmers, saws, equipment with Power-Take Off (PTO) attachments, to clean ditches, cut grass, weed control, clean-up grounds, etc. I have performed minor maintenance on equipment and adjusting attachments and parts as needed. I am able to provide professional references who may vouch for my ability to perform grounds maintenance independently and in a safe manner to prevent injury to self, others, and property. (Resume(s) must be clearly detailed of the types of equipment operated, as well as duties performed to be creditable.)

    PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires long periods of sitting, walking, standing and stooping. Must be able to move, load and carry materials and supplies, physically able to routinely lift and move items weighing 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds. Must have the physical ability to apply asphalt, load and unload materials, supplies and tools; cut grass, trim trees, clean ditches, move earth, etc. Performs heavy lifting using proper body mechanics to prevent injuries to self or other personnel. Heavy physical effort may be required in loading and unloading materials and in the handling of various supplies/materials.

    WORK CONDITIONS: The employee is required to work outside in all kinds of weather and is exposed to extreme weather conditions, including but not limited to cold, snow, sleet, freezing rain, rain, hot weather and dusty conditions; works at time under disagreeable conditions cutting weeds, grass, and/or trees in hot weather, etc. Must operate various equipment in all types of weather and is exposed to the possibility to serious accidents. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while performing duties. May be exposed to bees, wasps, hornets, and other types of insects in common practice. The work is performed primarily outdoors. The employee is exposed to dirt, dust, mud, chemical sprays, noise and vibrations, hot and cold weather. Subject to slips and falls during snowy/icy conditions.
