Summary: The motto of the CRC is “A Place for Everyone,” and the recreational programs of the Rec Center include activities for all ages and interests. The programs reflect the mission of the CRC: To provide the Chebeague Island community with recreational and educational opportunities that strengthen overall health and social connection to enhance lives and secure futures.
The Recreation Director position is responsible for organizing activities that bring the community into the Rec Center, and foster a positive relationship with the island community.
Recreation Director Responsibilities:
· Plan, lead, and organize a variety of high-quality programs and activities for all ages, including the after-school program;
· Oversee camp staff, pool staff, and programming volunteers with the support of the Managing Director
· Assist the Managing Director with facility management
· Responsible for organizing and executing a dynamic and high-quality summer camp program.
· Manage class enrollment;
· Oversee basic website updates relating to events and class schedules;
· Collaborate with staff to create email/written communications to clients, students, and donors;
· Provide logistical support for fundraising events;
· Attend regular staff and Program Committee meetings
· Understand program demands across all island demographics
· Must engage in current community partnerships and develop new ones to support overall community well-being
· Support the Managing Director in fundraising and membership
Seasonal Swimming Pool: The position will assume primary responsibility of the seasonal swimming pool: lifeguards, lessons, safety systems, and water testing. Must have a willingness to learn about the pool pumps, heating system and equipment, and to work with subcontractors.
Gym: The position will coordinate the schedule and uses of the gym for a wide variety of activities, such a tri-weekly pickleball, community suppers, and afterschool activities.
Fitness Room: The position will oversee the safety and maintenance of the fitness equipment, and offer introductory sessions for new users of the fitness room.
Summer Camps: work with the Managing Director to coordinate an active and well established summer camp program, including the schedule, website, planning the programs and handling communications. The Recreation Director will be the camp counselor for the majority of the camps.
Social Media Skills: familiarity or willingness to learn Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, Canva, Mailchip, and/or similar programs.
Priority tasks can shift from week to week and are not limited to the above list.

· Have a flexible schedule to allow for leading and attending weekend and evening activities.
Supervision: This position reports to the Managing Director.
Compensation and Benefits: This position is offered full time with a request to be flexible providing some hours during evening and weekend programs, at an hourly wage of up to $24 an hour, depending on experience. The CRC will provide health benefits negotiated individually with each employee and includes a quarterly donation into a health savings account.
About the Chebeague Recreation Center:
Chebeague Recreation Center is on Chebeague Island, a short 15-minute ferry ride from Cousins Island (parking and ferry paid for as part of the position) with numerous ferry times per day. The Chebeague Recreation Center serves community members of all ages and greatly contributes to the health and well-being of the community. The year-round community consists of about 400 people and the children have a school on the island serving Kindergarten through fifth grade, situated adjacent to the Recreation facility. The CRC, also known as “the Rec,” is an island-based, small non-profit that has been serving the recreational and athletic needs of the year-round and summer populations since it opened its doors in 1998. In 2008, the CRC became the parent organization of the island childcare center/ preschool called “Kids’ Place” which has its own teachers and director but shares some resources with the CRC and the school.
