SUMMARY
Works on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Works in a safe conscientious manner in all environments using proper safety habits.
- Loads necessary tools, materials and equipment on company trucks and drives or rides to work location.
- Places, rearranges and/or removes cables and associated plant.
- Connects and rearranges copper and fiber optic cable facilities associated with buried, underground and in buildings according to engineering design by utilizing hand tools and specialized equipment.
- Works with heavy duty power equipment and hand tools in the installation and maintenance of outside plant facilities.
- Does construction work such as digging holes, placing poles, laying cable and placing conduit in the ground.
- May be required to work in buildings, trenches, splice pits, cable vaults, manholes and hand holes.
- Attaches and/or detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings or poles.
- Utilizes test equipment in cable locating and tests for cable faults.
- Maintains accuracy in all reporting functions.
- Protects, cleans and ensures that preventative maintenance is performed on all assigned equipment.
- Heavy lifting may be required in handling tools, materials and supplies.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
- Maintains compliance to all relevant OSHA, safety or departmental specific standards as directed by supervisor.
- Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have valid Driver's License and insurable record.
Must pass pre-employment screen, physical and background checks.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- 2 years of experience and knowledge with heavy equipment operation, i.e. mini excavator, skid steer loader, backhoe, trenchers, etc.
- 2 years of directional drilling experience, knowledge and operation.
- 2 years of experience, knowledge and operation of directional drilling tracking systems, i.e. Digi Trak F1, F2 or F5.
- Experience and knowledge of mechanical maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, i.e. directional drilling machine, mini excavator, etc.
- Able to drive manual gear shift vehicle.
- Able to work required overtime, emergency call-out, weekends and out-of-town assignments.
- Able to attend and successfully complete required training courses.
