Job Title: MAINTENANCE WORKER
Supervised by/Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Goals
- To provide outstanding maintenance services in the care and operation of school system facilities, structures and equipment.
- To assist in maintaining school system facilities to provide supportive work and learning environments
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma or its' equivalent
- Possess certification in one of the major trades such as, electrical, plumbing, industrial maintenance, HVAC, etc.
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Possess general skills in all of the above mentioned areas
- Have at least 2 years successful work experience
- Be highly adaptable and willing to work during nights and holidays
- Possess a desire to show initiative and willingness to learn
- Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights
- Ability to engage in prolonged sitting or standing, stooping, kneelin, crawling, bending, turning and reaching
- Physical strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Such alternatives and/or exceptions to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Performance Responsibilities
- Accept and complete supervisor assigned job and overall supervision
- Maintain safety standards at all times
- Maintain good relationships with co-workers and other school employees
- Help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times
- Must have knowledge of general maintenance of buildings and equipment and must be capable of making decisions concerning this type of work to the best interest of the schools and Board of Education
- Takes care of carpentry work, carpentry repair work, and any millwork at any school site that may be assigned by the Building Maintenance Supervisor
- Estimate costs of carpentry work and/or carpentry repair projects in terms of labor and materials as needed
- Works with other school custodians and maintenance workers to carry out preventive maintenance projects as needed in any school facility
- Obtain any certifications needed for maintenance of schools including electrical, plumbing, waste water, etc.
- Exhibit skill and efficiency in performing routine and preventive maintenance
- Maintain work hours in accordance with Board Policies
- Operate county-owned vehicles in accordance with State Law and School Board policies
- Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor
- Keep all certifications required by Alabama State and Local Board of Education current
- Makes service calls when needed
- Must be dependable, truthful, trustworthy, sober, and on the job during assigned work hours
- Must follow Fayette County Board of Education Policies and do their job in a business-like manner. Conduct, language, and appearance should be compatible to the job
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Superintendent of Education.
Terms Of Employment
Twelve (12) month contract in accordance with the approved salary schedule for maintenance workers
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State
Department of Education and/or Fayette County Board of Education's Policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
