Capacity Planning Supervisor leads a capacity planning team to plan and monitor an organization's operating limits and capacities. Forecasts and plans capacity requirements to align with production schedules, resource levels, and inventory demand. Being a Capacity Planning Supervisor identifies and troubleshoots production issues or bottlenecks that impact plant capacity. Coordinates with internal stakeholders to understand future plans and develop responsive capacity forecasting. Additionally, Capacity Planning Supervisor utilizes production metrics and manufacturing research to develop insights on processes or equipment and recommend improvements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Capacity Planning Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Capacity Planning Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Reports to the First Shift Planning Yard Design Section Manager.

    • Responsible for the co-supervision of the Electrical design team.

     

    Primary responsibilities

    • Interfaces daily with internal and external customers.
    • Ensures design tasks are completed to established schedule, cost, and quality parameters.
    • Inputs weekly work order status.
    • Regularly communicate progress on floor issues with Design team leadership.
    • Reports design task cost, schedule, and quality progress at various weekly meetings.
    • Monitors cost, schedule, and quality metrics to identify employee development opportunities.
    • Performs root cause analysis and associated corrective action plans for identified design issues.
    • Ensure tasks are completed with the required level of quality specified in the contract.
    • Work with the Section Manager to evaluate workload requirements.
    • Develops employee performance evaluations.
    • Develops ROM and GAF design estimates.
    • Processes and verifies employee time accounting records.
    • Provide guidance and direction across the Team for Process, Policy and Technical issues.
    • Administers the BMDA labor contract.

    Required/Preferred Education/Training

    Required:

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in technical, business field or a BIW graduate apprentice (manufacturing or design), or 6 years of job related experience.
    • Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proficient in navigating within a Microsoft Access database.

    Preferred: 

    • AutoCAD training/experience.
    • LEAN SIX Sigma training.
    • Agile/SCRUM experience
    • Programming experience.
    • Microsoft Project experience.

    Required/Preferred Experience

    Required:

    • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal & written) at all levels of the company and customers.
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
    • Proven leadership skills.
    • Proven ability to foster a constructive and motivated work environment based on teaming.
    • Proven ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, rapid response technical environment.
    • Occasional weekend overtime supervision coverage will be required.
    • Occasional travel may be required.

    Preferred:

    • Familiar with ship specifications as related to design requirements.
    • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements.
    • Working experience with Earned Value Management.
    • Software Tool development experience in one or more of the following areas:
      • Software or script development experience.
      • Working with end users and developers to create software requirements.
      • Experience developing test procedures and training material from software requirements.
