Certified Medication Technician administers prescribed medications to patients and maintains related medical records under immediate supervision. Administers medications using proper dosage, route, timing, and techniques. Being a Certified Medication Technician verifies the identity of the patient receiving medication. Records the name of the drug, the dosage, the time of administration, and any other relevant information on specified forms or records. Additionally, Certified Medication Technician takes vital signs and observes patient to detect response to medication. Follows all relevant safety guidelines and regulations. Requires a high school diploma. Requires Certified Medication Technician (CMT) certification. Typically reports to a registered nurse or manager. The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for administering medications to designated residents in a safe and organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with medications, documentation of medication assistance, and resident care. The Certified Medication Technician must have strong communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with the resident, the resident’s family and all team members. She/ he must be able to observe and report changes in the resident’s physical condition or behavior. She /he also carries out all other duties of a Resident Assistant.
