  • JOB PURPOSE: The job of Chemical Dependency Counselor is done for the purpose of providing adolescent assessment, intervention, treatment and referral services applicable to the Olympia School District Student Assistance and Treatment Program for youth ages 12 – 19.

    This position works Monday – Friday, 180 days per year.

    Demonstrated experience providing direct counseling services, adolescent screening/assessment, and intervention and referral services for the purpose of addressing and resolving chemical use/abuse or dependency issues, co-occurring conditions, developing plans for services, making recommendations and providing direct communication with school personnel and parents for the purpose of coordinating services and providing information. Required CDP licensure in the State of Washington.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    Provides adolescent assessments, treatment, interventions, and referral services applicable to the Olympia School District Student Assistance and Treatment Program and state regulations.

    • Coordinates services with community organizations (schools, juvenile justice, mental health, and other treatment programs) for the purpose of facilitating and supporting continuity of care.
    • Provides individual and group counseling for the purpose of addressing and resolving chemical abuse or dependency problems.
    • Consults with school personnel and parents for the purpose of providing information, developing plans for services, and making recommendations.
    • Prepares, maintains, and submits all necessary documentation required by District policy, state requirements (individual client files, evaluations, reviews, treatment plans, progress notes, etc.).
    • Ensures compliance with all rules and regulations of the Olympia School District, the Olympia School District Student Assistance and Treatment Program, and federal and state requirements and confidentiality laws.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
    State licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (CDP)

    • Prior experience working with at risk youth and their families in a treatment setting.
    • Prior experience conducting biopsychosocial chemical dependency assessments and diagnosis and applying assessment instruments.
    • Ability to work independently and schedule meetings, activities, and events, being flexible under time constraints, and work flexible hours when necessary.
    • Organization skills necessary for preparing and maintaining accurate records/files in compliance with District and state requirement, regulations, and laws.
    • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
