PURPOSE:
Production The Production/Lab Operator is responsible for the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the LTP Chrome Sulfate Plant's equipment. All operators are expected to work as a team and use consensus decision-making to achieve departmental goals and objectives. Each operator should strive to be self-directed while communicating with the plant manager.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Health, Safety and Environment
· Reports all safety and environmental incidences immediately
· Completes Management of Change where appropriate
· Housekeeping – responsible for keeping the entire area clean
· Double the validity and trueness of all job permits
· Maintains hair, dress, and hygiene to plant standards
· Looks out for the safety of others around them
Production support
· Perform Production Batch Manufacturing and railcar unloading operations.
· Reads and acts upon daily area operating instructions. Conducts hourly (minimal requirement) tours of the manufacturing area to ensure good operating conditions of all equipment. Identify and resolve mechanical and process-related issues. Checks levels, temperatures, pressures, etc. Communicates findings to supervision.
· Knowledge of and calibration of weighing systems for batch processing.
· Loading finished product into semi-trailer tank for customer delivery.
· Unload and track Raw Materials (i.e. Sodium Dichromate, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sulfuric Acid, Alum, Sodium Sulfate, Citric Acid, Sodium Bisulfite and Ammonium Sulfate)
· Communicates and cooperates effectively with the Engineering, HSE, and Administrative Teams.
Lab support:
· Sampling finished product lots.
· Maintains proper QA/QC techniques to comply with company and/or customer-required standards
· Provides customer support regarding laboratory and shipping area activities
· Complete Performance Evaluation objectives successfully
· Read gauges and meters and record readings accurately
· Actively participate in daily meetings in the production area
· Responsible for clean-up and manual labor duties as needed
· Regular, predictable attendance as per job schedule
· Responsible for own timekeeping
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
· Maintains all aspects of production laboratory areas.
· Maintains supplies required in production laboratories.
· Maintains laboratory equipment on-site.
· Attends training and departmental meetings.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
High school or equivalent required; chemical plant experience preferred.
Reading, math, written language, and memory abilities are essential to performing this job. Makes evaluations based on measurable or verifiable criteria. Relates to others in situations involving cooperation and teamwork. Performs repetitive or continuous tasks that have set procedures. Performs under stress when confronted with emergency or critical situations. Performs under set limits, tolerances, or standards. Adaptable to a variety of duties.
Experience working or the ability to learn all Operating jobs. Identify self-training needs to maintain the required skills and knowledge to perform the job to the necessary standard.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The candidate must be a strong individual contributor while maintaining and improving the team's relationships. Strong interpersonal skills are required. The candidate reports directly to the Plant Manager and works effectively with all personnel.
JOB SETTING/SCHEDULE: The typical schedule is 8-hour days, 5 days a week. It is subject to overtime, call-in, or assignment to a shift. The work environment includes climbing stairs and ladders.
VISION, SPEECH, HEARING: Must have clarity of vision at 20 feet or more and 20 inches or less. Able to judge distances and space relationships. Peripheral vision is needed while the eyes are fixed. Eye adjustment is used to do near-point work. Able to identify and distinguish colors. Express ideas by spoken word and perceive the nature of sounds. Must speak and hear other plant employees, vendors, customers, alarms, etc.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Employees' activities occur both inside and outside. They are exposed to extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, and loud noise. Gases, dusts, odors, fumes, and mists associated with normal chemical plant operation may be present. In production areas, employees must wear company-supplied protective equipment such as a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, slickers, and boots.
