Performs a variety of chemical tests using instrumental methods and standard test equipment. Being a Chemical Technician prepares materials for laboratory examination and conducts quality, safety, and compliance assessments. Follows established SOPs. Additionally, Chemical Technician sets up and maintains lab equipment. Records and tabulates data and documents observations and results. Requires an associate degree in chemistry, science or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Chemical Technician works under moderate supervision. Responsibilities
• Work with research scientists to prepare and develop new chemical products and/or processes
• Conduct analytical characterization following provided procedures
• Document and accurately record data in a laboratory notebook
• Assist in the design of experiments to understand and optimize production processes
• Communicate progress reports and results to colleagues, sponsors, and scientists.
• Present a capstone presentation covering work performed and findings during the internship.
• Attend group meetings to obtain a wider perspective on industrial research and development operations
Qualifications
• Currently pursuing an undergraduate chemistry or chemical engineering degree at an accredited college or university (Junior and Senior level students preferred)
• Completed general and organic chemistry classes
• Basic understanding of analytical methods (GC, HPLC, titrations, ICP, GC-MS, NMR)
• Knowledge of basic chemical calculations (formula weights, stoichiometry, limiting reagents, titrations)
• Desire to work in and learn about industrial laboratory research and development operations
