    SUMMARY

    In coordination with the Director of Health Services, the Chief Dental Officer will be responsible for providing the usual and customary professional services of a Chief Dental Officer for Tribal patients at the Tribal Dental Clinic in compliance with the standards of care and ethics of the American Dental Association (ADA) and regulations of the Indian Health Service (IHS). In addition to providing direct patient care, the Chief Dental Officer will also be responsible for assigned administrative duties.

    PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide the usual professional services of a Dentist in providing treatment, prescription medicines, diagnostic studies and such other professional care normally furnished by a Dentist to Dental Clinic patients.
    • Dental services will be provided in compliance with the standards of care and ethics of the American Dental Association, the regulations of the Indian Health Service, the requirements of funding sources for the Indian Health Service, and applicable laws of the United States of America and the State of Oregon and the Tribes.
    • Complete all assigned administrative duties and participate in staff meetings as necessary.
    • Develop annual dental in-service clinical training plans for staff allowing for certification continuing education credits.
    • Provide in-service training for the Tribes’ Coos Bay Oregon site staff and community members on dental issues and assist in program development as requested.
    • Refer patients of the CTCLUSI Dental Clinic to approved specialists, practitioners or institutions when appropriate. The specialist, practitioner or institutions shall establish the medical need and priorities for such services provide all necessary information and complete all necessary documentation when a patient is referred to another practitioner.
    • Complete all reports, claims, correspondence and other records necessary to document patient care and to obtain payment or reimbursement for services provided to patients, in accordance with the medical/dental records policies adopted by the CTCLUSI Dental Clinic.
    • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
    • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
    • Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors of the CTCLUSI Dental Clinic.
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Other duties as directed by management.

    LEVEL OF AUTHORITY & RESTRICTIONS

    • Provide clinical supervision of dental clinic staff.
    • Provide performance evaluation and coaching input to direct supervisor of dental clinic staff.

    PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
    • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.

    WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

    • All vacation time shall be pre-arranged and approved with the Director of Health Services.
    • Moderate noise level with frequent interruptions and distractions.
