Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages daily planning, operations, and staff of a medical library to meet the information needs of users. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Responds to more complex requests from faculty, medical staff, and students. Additionally, Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) possess broad and current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Medical Librarian (MLS) typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Starting Pay: $$24.66 to $30.82 DOE

     

    Full-time, benefited position working typically 72 hours per two week pay period. Days of work are variable, Sunday - Saturday with day/evening rotation with night shift coverage as needed. Weekend work is every 4th weekend. Holiday work is every 3rd holiday. Night call is rotating depending on schedule.

     

    Performs clinical laboratory testing in the following areas:  bloodbanking, microbiology, serology, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis.  Obtains or receives specimens, performs clinical laboratory procedures, preventive maintenance, and quality control.  Interprets results as to accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.   Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines, records all data obtained, and maintains job competence.  The position also involves effective communication and interpersonal skills.

    Responsibilities

    • Collects and processes specimens according to laboratory policy.
    • Has computer skills to use Lab information system for processing results, running analyzers and reporting out results in microbiology.
    • Performs clinical laboratory test procedures. Evaluates results and reports results to proper unit.
    • Performs quality control as specified. Analyzes quality control data.  Makes decisions regarding accepting/rejecting of patient results based on quality control data.
    • Responsible for continually seeking ways to assess and improve quality.
    • Operates technical instruments. Responsible for calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
    • Provides appropriate laboratory services and care to the following age groups: infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.  This care will be delivered in accordance with established standards of performance.
    • Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of job.
    • Responsible for maintaining interpersonal skills, initiative, and attitude.
    • Adheres to hospital and department policies.
    • Adhere to hospital/department exposure control policies and safety policies.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
    • Job duties are limited to certain areas of the laboratory.
    • Works within the Healthy Roots written by JRMC employees

    Qualifications

    Medical Technologist/MLS/CLS - Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or related science with 12

    months of clinical education in an approved school of medical technology.  Must be currently registered

    or eligible for registration as a MT/MLS/CLS(ASCP) or equivalent. Must currently hold or be eligible for

    ND Licensure.

     

    Medical Lab Technician- Associates Degree from an accredited 2 year college. Must be currently

    registered or eligible for registration as a MLT(ASCP) or equivalent. Must currently hold or be eligible for

    ND Licensure.

     

    Medical Technologist (HEW) - successful completion of a qualifying exam offered by the Department of

    Health, Education, and Welfare.

     Six to 12 months in a hospital training program.

     

    Position requires the individual to provide a vehicle for transportation.  Must hold a valid North Dakota

    Driver's License.

     

    Background check is required.
