Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist provides administrative oversight for the nuclear medical technology department of a hospital. Reviews, develops and implements technical policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, quality and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Being a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist supervises nuclear medicine technologists, and may perform the functions of a technologist as needed. Ensures proper usage, maintenance and updates of medical equipment. Additionally, Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist requires a bachelor's degree. Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification. Typically requires Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) Certification. Typically reports to a director. The Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Description

    The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs examinations, on pre-mature neo-natal, neo-natal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; administers radioactive material to patients for diagnostic exams and therapies; utilizes effective radiation safety practices; maintains record keeping in accordance with governing agencies; works closely with other staff to maximize efficiency and productivity

    Responsibilities:

    Administers radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of provider; explains the procedures to the patient, answers the patient’s questions, and obtains the patient’s consent; injects (doses) patients with radioactive material. 

    Places radiopharmaceutical orders after reviewing provider’s orders; obtains and documents pertinent to patient history; calculates, measures and records radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received. 

    Determines the correct procedure for the study ordered; maintains the required records for dosing, decaying and disposing of radioactive material. 

    Performs required quality control on all cameras and dose measuring equipment. 

    Other duties as assigned. 

    Credentials:
    Essential:
    * BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)
    * CERTIFIED NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGIST (CNMT)
    * NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGY (N)

    Education:
    Essential:
    * ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE

    Other information:
    REQUIRED: 2 years related experience
