Chief of Surgery directs the staff and programs of the surgical department. Works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Being a Chief of Surgery requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Requires a valid state license to practice. Additionally, Chief of Surgery require extensive clinical experience. Typically reports to top management. The Chief of Surgery manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments. Comprehensive knowledge of the overall departmental function.     • The chief will inspire, develop, and lead an accomplished team of faculty and mentor trainees, drive the development of clinical programs, and create accountability in the division. They are expected to exhibit leadership and consensus-building within and beyond the division and the department. To elevate the division to the next level, this leader will be expected to strategically recruit and retain talented faculty to support clinical growth, expand the division’s research footprint, improve the national reputation of CT surgery at UArizona and Banner Health, and ensure excellence in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
