Chief Ultrasound Technologist oversees Ultrasound Technologists and maintains the technical aspects of ultrasound services. Acts as a liaison between technologists, physicians and area support staff. Being a Chief Ultrasound Technologist suggests equipment modification and evaluates accuracy and quality of ultrasound images. May perform duties of Ultrasound Technologist as needed. Additionally, Chief Ultrasound Technologist requires an associate degree in ultrasound technology. Requires Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) credential. Typically requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a senior manager or director. The Chief Ultrasound Technologist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Chief Ultrasound Technologist typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     JOB SUMMARY

    • The Ultrasound Technologist or Sonographer performs routine and interventional ultrasound exams according to department protocols under the supervision of a qualified Physician for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. The technologist provides direct patient care for all ages of patients. The technologist is to provide very good service; that is to treat every patient with respect, courtesy and explain the exam to the patient. The technologist must be able to work together with others providing a positive work environment. The technologist is responsible to provide a safe environment for the patients, fellow employees and themselves.
    GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Adheres to the hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
    • Performs all job responsibilities in alignment with the core values, mission and vision of the organization
    • Performs other duties as required and completes all job functions as per departmental policies and procedures
    • Maintains current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (i.e., self education, attends ongoing educational programs)
    • Attends staff meetings and completes mandatory in-services and requirements and competency evaluations on time.
    • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
    • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs. For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age- specific customer service skills.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
    • General environment: Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned area, with moderate noise levels.
    • May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids, or infectious organisms.
    • May be required to change from one task to another of different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
    • Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.


    Qualifications

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    • Vocational / Technical Degree in Ultrasound Technology (Required)
    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • 0 - 1 year Ultrasound routine and interventional exams. (Preferred)
    CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSURES
    • Required Certifications/Licensures: Certified Sonography (S)(ARRT), Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Basic Life Support (BLS)
