Childbirth Educator provides instruction and education to patients planning to give birth. Presents curriculum in a group setting. Being a Childbirth Educator reviews class material and recommends changes based on educational standards. May assist in developing new content. Additionally, Childbirth Educator may require a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Childbirth Educator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)


    Grade 19: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.S. degree in Health Science, Public Health, Community Health, or other closely related field; AND two (2) years of full-time paid professional employment in community or public health, PLUS CHES eligible;
    OR

    Grade 17: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.S. degree in Health Science, Public Health, Community Health, or other closely related field; AND one (1) year of full-time paid professional employment in community or public health, PLUS CHES eligible.


    Substitutions on a year-for-year basis – Additional graduate study in a public or community health program for the required full-time paid professional employment requirement.


    Minimum Qualifications (Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)


    Must:
    ● Have considerable knowledge of public health education models, behavior change theories, and primary prevention techniques;
    ● Be skilled in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, internet, and email use;
    ● Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
    ● Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers;
    ● Have skills in program planning and evaluation, and considerable knowledge of public health trends, methods, and procedures;
    ● Have the ability to work with public officials, attend meetings and assist in liaison efforts with community partners and agencies;
    ● Be able to maintain a cooperative working relationship with co-workers and those contacted during the course of the work day;
    ● Have public speaking and presentation ability;
    ● Maintain confidentiality of all records and information;
    ● Understand and follow Bear River Health Department policies and procedures.


    Special Qualifications


    Must:
    ● Be able to pass a full background check and drug screening;
    ● Possess or be able to obtain a valid Utah Driver License at the time of employment;
    ● Be able to provide your own transportation;
    ● Be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to perform strenuous activities requiring flexibility and stamina, and overall general good health;
    ● Have a flexible schedule and be available for scheduled work in the evenings and/or weekends and holidays as the job requires.


    General Summary of Duties 


    ● Assess community needs and capacity for health education programs;
    ● Plan, implement, and evaluate health education programs;
    ● Research health education topics;
    ● Advocate for health education, policy, and laws, that enables healthy people in healthy communities;
    ● Communicate health education to diverse populations and groups through public speaking, electronic and written methods;
    ● Provide personal and program leadership in health education;
    ● Manage health education program plans;
    ● Provide ethical and professional conduct to community and co-workers;
    ● Mobilize community partnerships;
    ● Responds to public health emergencies;
    ● Perform other duties as assigned.


    Specific Duties Relevant to Position


    ● Serve as a support staff to implement tobacco civil hearings;

    ● Assist tobacco program coordinator to issue tobacco retailer permits to sell products in the Bear River Health district;

    ● Plan, implement, evaluate program goals and objectives in the annual tobacco prevention & control plan;

    ● Conduct inspections at tobacco retail permit holders in the Bear River Health District;

    ● Conduct retailer directed interventions;

    ● Inform and educate retailers, law enforcement, cities,
    ● Business licensing, counties and other related state and local partners on compliance to Utah tobacco and e-cigarette laws;

    ● Establish partnerships with tobacco specialty businesses and general tobacco businesses in the Bear River Health District;

    ● Plan, implement, and evaluate tobacco policies with various groups and populations;

    ● Facilitate tobacco cessation activities including classes with various groups and populations;

    ● Facilitate Prime for Life Minor in Possession (MIP) and Driving under the Influence (DUI) classes;

    ● Enhance skills and knowledge through professional development opportunities; mobilize
    ● Community partnerships with city planners and business licensing staff;

    ● Plan, implement, and organize
    ● Tobacco enforcement and retailer directed interventions reporting, licensing, and payments in Quickbase system;

    ● Complete contract and/or program reporting.


    This is a full-time, benefited position with participation in Utah Retirement Systems 

     

    Office location in our Brigham City building instead of Logan could be negotiated with qualified applicants.
